INTRODUCTION

Water pollution is a major environmental issue that affects the health and well-being of
humans, animals, and ecosystems. It occurs when harmful substances, such as
chemicals, plastics, and waste, are introduced into bodies of water, including rivers,
lakes, and oceans. This presentation will provide an overview of the causes, effects, and
solutions to water pollution.

CAUSES OF WATER POLLUTION

Industrial waste and chemicals.

Agricultural activities such as use of pesticides

and fertilizers.

Oil spills from ships and offshore drilling

platforms.

Sewage and wastewater discharge from cities

and towns.

Plastic pollution from single-use plastics and

littering.

EFFECTS OF WATER POLLUTION

Water pollution has a significant impact on the environment, human health,

and aquatic life. Some of the effects of water pollution include:

Contamination of drinking water sources leading to health problems such as

diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid fever.
Harmful algal blooms that can cause fish kills and make water unsafe for
recreational activities like swimming and boating.
Disruption of aquatic ecosystems by reducing oxygen levels in the water and
killing off plant and animal species.

TYPES OF WATER POLLUTION

CHEMICAL POLLUTION
Occurs when harmful chemicals are released into the water supply.
Sources of chemical pollution include industrial waste, pesticides, and
fertilizers.

BIOLOGICAL POLLUTION
Occurs when harmful bacteria, viruses, or other microorganisms contaminate
water sources.
Sources of biological pollution include sewage, animal waste, and agricultural
runoff.

PHYSICAL POLLUTION
Occurs when physical materials, such as plastic or debris, accumulate in water
sources.
Sources of physical pollution include littering and improper waste disposal.

GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS

CLEAN WATER ACT

The Clean Water Act is a federal law that regulates the discharge of pollutants
into the nation's surface waters, including lakes, rivers, streams, wetlands, and
coastal areas.

SAFE DRINKING WATER ACT

The Safe Drinking Water Act is a federal law that regulates the quality of public
drinking water supplies, including underground sources of drinking water,
surface waters, and municipal water systems.

NATIONAL POLLUTANT DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM

(NPDES)

The NPDES is a permit program that controls water pollution by regulating

point sources that discharge pollutants into waters of the United States. Point
sources include factories, sewage treatment plants, and other industrial
facilities.

PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Water pollution can be prevented and controlled through various methods.

These include:

 Reducing the use of fertilizers and pesticides in agriculture

 Proper disposal of hazardous waste materials
 Treating wastewater before it is released into water bodies
 Implementing stricter regulations on industrial waste discharge.

CONCLUSION

This project has been a great tutor as far as practical aspects of programming are
concerned. I planned the program with my classmates and then discussed it with my
teachers. the source code, I punched it in the computer followed by debugging and
testing it, both at. Subsequently, I was able to get an error free code in my project.
things like team work, time This has not only drilled me on the subject but also taught
management, and research work and presentation skills. These are the lessons for my
life, which will always stay with and help me in my career.
