ABSTRACT
• The metal matrix Copper (Cu) and reinforcement (Al 2 O3) is
blending-mixed with certain ratio and the mixed composite is
compacted.
• The metal powder that compacted to desire shape and size after
pressed is called green compact. After compacting the metal, it is
weakly bonded.
• This green compacted material is sintered. After sintering
operation the metal bonding of green compact is improved. The
weakly bonded materials get strengthened.
• The composite material characterizations are analysed by using
SEM,OM and EDS analysis and the mechanical properties are
evaluated by Mircro hardness test and Ring compression test at
various volume fraction of the above composite material.
OBJECTIVES
 TO IMPROVE THE STRENGTH OF THE MATERIAL

 TO REDUCE THE WEIGHT OF THE MATERIAL

 TO INCREASE THE YIELD STRENGTH OF THE

MATERIAL

 TO IMPROVE THE HARDNESS AND IMPACT

STRENGTH OF THE MATERIAL

 TO IMPROVE THE WEAR CHARACTERISTICS OF

THE MATERIAL
INTRODUCTION OF COMPOSITES

• A COMPOSITE MATERIAL can be defined as a combination of

two or more materials that results in better properties than those of
the individual components used alone.
• The two constituents are a reinforcement and a matrix.
• The main advantages of composite materials are their high
strength and stiffness, combined with low density
• Composites are materials consist of strong load carrying
reinforcing material imbedded in a weaker matrix material.
TYPES OF COMPOSITES
• a) Polymer Matrix Composites (PMC)
• b) Metal Matrix Composites (MMC)

• c) Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC)
