the years, there's a feeling that you get from the book
as to whether it has integrity as an object," he
explained. "And that's somewhat subjective, which is
why I was very glad to see the book myself." The
final sale price exceeded the auction house's
estimates, which had predicted top bids of $4 million
to $6 million. A number of other items at
Wednesday's sale sold for seven-figure sums --
including a Ming dynasty carpet that went under the
hammer for over $1.7 million -- providing further
evidence that the top end of the auction market is
weathering some the challenges posed by the

Remy Cordonnier, 35 tahun, pustakawan yang
bertanggung jawab atas koleksi literatur klasik di
perpustakaan di kota kecil tersebut menyatakan ia
menemukan buku pada bulan September lalu ketika

sebuah pameran sejarah literatur Inggris dan

Buku yang mempunyai judul asli, Mr
William Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories
& Tragedies, Published according to the
True Originall Copies ini dipandang
sebagai salah satu karya yang paling
berharga dalam literatur Inggris. Dicetak
hanya sebanyak 230 eksemplar, First Folio
terbit tahun 1623, tujuh tahun setelah
kematian sang penyair. 
"Mungkin itu sebabnya mengapa pustawakan sebelumnya mengidentifikasikan buku ini
sebagai karya abad ke-18. Aku gemetar ketika menemukan buku ini dan menyadarinya.
Aku harus mencari tahu apakah ini adalah salinan yang asli," kata Cordonnier. 
First Folio diperkirakan bernilai jutaan poundsterling. Sebanyak 18 naskah drama sang
penyair kenamaan, termasuk yang paling terkenal, Romeo dan Juliet, ada di dalam buku
tersebut. Namun, beberapa lembar nampak hilang dari karya tersebut, termasuk foto
wajah Shakespeare yang merupakan ciri khas buku First Folio. Cordonnier kemudian
menghubungi Profesor Eric Rasmussen dari Universitas Nevada, yang terkenal sebagai
seorang akademisi Shakespeare dan secara kebetulan tengah berada di London.
Walikota Saint-Omer, François Decoster, menyatakan Rasmussen hanya butuh waktu
