Biocatalysis refers to the use of living (biological) systems or their parts to speed
up (catalyze) chemical reactions. In biocatalytic processes, natural catalysts,
such as enzymes, perform chemical transformations on organic compounds.
What do you mean by biocatalyst?
Biocatalysis is defined as the use of natural substances that include enzymes
from biological sources or whole cells to speed up chemical reactions. …
Biocatalyst engineering requires rational design and directed evolution.
The examples of biocatalyst include hormones or enzymes, which increase the
rate of biochemical reactions. Eg: digestive enzymes such as trypsin, pepsin etc.
Note: The catalyst is the substance which increases the speed and rate of the
reaction.
There are mainly five types of bio catalysts which are following;
Microbes: yeast and other antibiotics.
Lipases:There are a class of Organic synthesis.
Protaeses: Enzymes which breakdown Proteins.
Cellulases: These break down the cellulose.
Amylases: These break down Starc into simple sugars.
Advantages of biocatalysts
Advantages of biocatalysts
Operate under mild conditions.
Show higher enantioselectivity and High regionselectivity.
Enzymed catalysIs involves lesser use hazardous and harmful Or harsh
chemicals.
Enzyme produce no harmful by-products.
In enzyme catalyzed Reaction protection and deprotection Of funeral growth
is not necessary.
