Continuation of UNIT CONVERSION

• James Reid test drives the newly released NMAX 2020 and
traveled a distance of 5 miles. How many kilometers were
recorded in the Odometer?

• If Kevin Durant drinks 500ml Gatorade to rehydrate, replenish,

and refuel what’s lost in his sweat. How much Gatorade Kevin
Durant drank in cubic foot?

TRIGONOMETRIC FUNCTIONS of an acute angle of a right
triangle
Prepared by: Mark Andrew M. Alingog

(1) In order to determine the height of a building, a student measures the

angle of elevation of the top of the building from a point 25 meters away.
The angle of elevation is found to be 50 degrees. What is the height of
the building if the eyes of the student are 1.2 m above the ground?

(2.) On a town map, rectangular coordinate grid- a cartesian grid-

was superimposed, such that its origin coincides with the center of
the town. A sewage hole was specified to have coordinate (3.5,
6.2). Find the distance between the sewer hole and the center of
the town assuming the grid is calibrated in km.

Law of Sines and Law of Cosines

• The law of cosines is used if two sides and their included angle
of a triangle are given. It can also be used if the three sides
are given.

• The law of sine can be use readily in solving any triangle with 2
sides and an angle opposite one of them are given or two angles
and a side opposite one of them are given.

(3.) Two sides of a parallelogram are 120 degrees with each other.
The length of sides are 8 meters and 6 meters. Find the length of
the longer diagonal opposite of the included angle.

(4.) Two cars A and B start from the same point at the same time
and travel along straight roads that form 60° with each other.
After 2 hours, Car A has traveled 120 km and Car B 100 km. How
far apart are the cars after 2 hours?

Significant Figures

The concept of significant figures is useful in physics.

Digits that are known with certainty are called
significant figures.
Prepared by: Mark Andrew M. Alingog

RULES

• All nonzero digits are significant.

Example 1.234 kg has 4 significant figures.
• Zeroes between two nonzero digits are significant.
Example 40507 cm has 5 significant figures.
• Zeros to the left of the first non zero digit are
not significant.
Example 0.009 ms has one significant figure.
• If a number is greater than one, all zeros to the
right of the decimal point are significant.
Examples 7.00 km has 3 significant figures.
4005.0 mm have five significant figures

RULES

• If a number is less than one, only the zeros at

the end of the number and the zeros between two
nonzero digits are significant.
Example 0.020 10 gram has 4 significant figures.
• The zeroes immediately to the left of an
unexpressed decimal point are not significant
Example 400 m has one significant figure.
