STAGING

STAGING
- The process of selecting, designing
adapting to or modifying the
performance space for a given purpose.
- The term is frequently used
interchangeable with the term
“blocking” referring to how the
performers are placed and moved
around the stage.
STAGE
- In theatre of performance arts, the
stage ( sometimes referred to as
the deck in stagecraft) is a designated
space for the performance
productions.
- The stage serves as a space for
actors or performers and a focal
point ( the screen in cinema theaters)
for the members of the audience.
PURPOSE OF STAGING
- To present an existing dance piece
in a manner or style that will bring
out the best qualities of the dance
and make it more interesting,
meaningful and appealing without
losing the real essence of the dance.
Do’s and Don’t’s in staging Folk
Dances
1. Ensure correct interpretation of the
original dance piece.
2. Basic steps and movements should
be executed properly and with
mastery.
3. Don’t change the sequence of the
figures. Stick to the original
sequence.
4. Use only the correct music for the
dance. Don’t use music of any other
dance.
5. The last measure of the figure
maybe used to move to a new
formation.
6. There should be a smooth transition
from figure to figure so that the
whole dance flows naturally from the
start to the finish.
7. Grace , poise and projection are not
found in the written dance
instruction. These should be taught
and developed in the dancers.
8. Male roles should be given to male
only.
9. Avoid too many and too frequent
changes in formation.
10. When using props, maximize and
play around its other uses.
