Definition of Attitudes

Attitude is an expression of favour or disfavour


toward a person, place, thing, or event.

Attitude is a state of mind or tendency to feel &


behave in a particular way toward something by an
individual.
Attitude as a predisposition to respond in a positive
or negative way to someone or something in one’s
enviroment.
Characteristics of Attitudes

Expresses values and disposes a person to act or


react in a certain way toward something.
As relationship between a person and some kind of
object.
Evaluative statements - either favourable or
unfavourable - concerning objects, people, or events.
Reflect how one feels about something.
Attitudes & Values are not same, but are
interrelated.
Components of Attitudes

Cognitive:
represents our thoughts, beliefs and ideas about
something.
Affective:
deals with feelings or emotions that are brought to the
surface about something, such as fear or hate.
Conative or Behavioral:
centers on individuals acting a certain way towards
something.

Attitudes may be learned from the experiences


The processes through which our experiences create
attitudes are all related to “learning”.
Attitudes formation influenced by family, schooling,
and peer groups.
