Gospel of John

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana

in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus
and his disciples had also been invited to the
wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’
mother said to him, “They have no more
wine.”
“Woman, why do you involve me?” Jesus
replied. “My hour has not yet come.”
His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever
he tells you.”
Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind
used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each
holding from twenty to thirty gallons.

John 2 v 1-6
Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with
water”; so they filled them to the brim.
Then he told them, “Now draw some out and
take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, and the master of the banquet
tasted the water that had been turned into
wine. He did not realize where it had come
from, though the servants who had drawn the
water knew. Then he called the bridegroom
aside and said, “Everyone brings out the
choice wine first and then the cheaper wine
after the guests have had too much to drink;
but you have saved the best till now.”

John 2 v 7-10
What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee
was the first of the signs through which
he revealed his glory; and his disciples
believed in him.
After this he went down to Capernaum
with his mother and brothers and his
disciples. There they stayed for a few
days.

John 20 v 31

John 2 v 3-4

Amos 9 v 13b
“The Son of Man grew up in an
occupied territory and encountered
more injustice, brokenness, demonic
oppression, psychological disorder,
sickness, sorrow, leprosy and death in
three years than any modern
Westerner may in a lifetime. He got
exhausted and sad and angry. He
wept. Yet when we consider the mood
of the Jesus we meet in the Gospels, he
seems- and I think this is the right
word for it- jolly.
He loves eating and drinking. He walks
with a spring in his step and teaches
people between mouthfuls. He is witty. He
loves the ridiculous: planks and specks,
camels and needles, whitewashed tombs,
the blind leading the blind. He draws
crowds. He is always sitting at the fun
table, so much so that his enemies accuse
him of being a drunkard and a glutton.
This tells us something. God is happier
than people think he ought to be in the
circumstances.

“Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing”
2 Corinthians 6 v 10a

In Him you rejoice- though you are

grieved by various trials…. “Though you
do not now see him, you believe in him
and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible
and filled with glory.”
