CONVEYORS AND

CONVEYING SYSTEMS

Conveyer system
mechanical handling equipment that moves from one place to another
Allow quick efficient transportation that are popular in the material
handling and packaging industries
Can move loads of all shapes, sizes and weight and has safety features to
help prevent accidents
Industries that conveyor system is used

TYPES OF CONVEYOR SYSTEMS
CHUTE CONVEYER

• Low coefficient of dynamic friction that allows the product or materials

to slide easily.
• Used to convey items between upper floors to central location one of the
lower floor with minimum amount of space required.
• Use for scrap handling, packaging, postal service package.
WHEEL CONVEYER

Uses a series of skate wheels mounted on the axel.

Spacing of the wheels is depending on the load being transported
Slope for gravity movement depends on load weight
Light duty application
ROLLER CONVEYOR

Series of rollers supported within a frame.

Object can be move manually, by gravity or by power.
Using gravity

Using power
CHAIN CONVEYOR

• Use one or endless chain on which load are carries directly

• Transport product along a product line
• Vertical chain conveyer – use in continuous high frequency vertical
transfer
• Parallel chain conveyor - use to transfer in low frequency transfer
• Single or double chain configuration
• Transport pallet grid boxes, industrial container
SLAT CONVEYOR

• Orientation and placement of the load is controlled

• Consist of endless chain driven by electric motor through reduction
gears and sprocket
• With attached spaced slats to carry object that can damage a belt due to
its heavy weight or sharpness.
FLAT BELT CONVEYOR

• Supported by a flat belt idlers or pulley

• Transport light and medium weight load
• A self unloading bulk freighters and in live bottom trucks
• Wen an incline or decline is required5rovides considerable control over
the orientation and placement of the load.
MAGNETIC BELT
CONVEYOR

• Steel belt and either a magnetic slider bed or a magnetic pulley is use
• Transport ferrous materials vertically upside down and around corners
• Created by placing ceramic magnet in the bed.
TROUGHED BELT
CONVEYOR

• Transport bulk material

• If loaded the belt conforms to the shape of the troughed roller and idlers
• Deigned to help keep loose or bulk materials of the conveyor
• Great use to convey loose or bulk material specially if the material is
abrasive.
BUCKET CONVEYOR

• used to move bulk materials in a vertical or inclined path

• Buckets are attached to a cable, chain, or belt
• Buckets are automatically unloaded at the end of the conveyor run
VIBRATING CONVEYOR

• Consists of a trough, bed, or tube

• Vibrates at a relatively high frequency and small amplitude in order to
convey individual units of products or bulk material
• Can be used to convey almost all granular, free flowing materials
SCREW CONVEYOR

• industrial equipment used in transporting bulk quantities of granular

solids
• Mechanism that uses rotating helical screw blade called flighting
usually with tube to move granular materials or liquid
• one of the most widely used conveyors in the processing industry
PNEUMATIC CONVEYOR

• a tube through which powdered or granular material, such as

cement, grain is transported by a flow of air
• A Pneumatic Conveyor moves dry mass materials or powders through
an encased passing on pipeline utilizing pressure differential and gas
stream
• It is less energy efficient because it uses air stream that requires more
power to gain proper air pressure in order to move product through the
system
DILUTE PHASE PNEUMATIC
CONVEYING

• method of moving non-abrasive, non-fragile materials that have a

low bulk density
• Air pressure is used to convey materials through a system of vertical
and horizontal tubes
• Material is completely enclosed and easy to implement turn and vertical
movement
CARRIER SYSTEM
PNEUMATIC

• Carriers are used to transport items or paperwork

VERTICAL CONVEYOR

• move objects from one elevation to another, raising or lowering a load

to different levels in the supply line
• Can be manually or automatically loaded and controlled and can
interface with horizontal conveyors
RECIPROCATING VERTICAL
CONVEYOR

• Also known as alternating up and down power or gravity actuated lift

that receives objects or material only onto a carrier and travel objects
vertically between two or more fixed elevation
CART ON TRACK CONVEYOR

• Carts are transported by a rotating tube

• Use to transport carts along a track
• Connected to each cart is a drive wheel that rests on the tube and that is
used to vary the speed of the cart
TOW CONVEYOR

• Uses towline to provide power tow heeled carriers such as trucks,

dollies, or carts that move along the floor
• designed to use tow chains to move items across the line towline can
be located either overhead, flush with the door, or in the floor
TROLLEY CONVEYOR

• Uses a series of trolleys supported from or within an overhead track

• used to carry goods hung under ceiling
• It consists of a enclosed, suspended, single-rail track, moving trolleys
with cargo hangers, a tension device, and a drive element such as a
chain or, more rarely, a steel cable, which is secured to the trolleys and
set in motion by one or several drive systems
POWER AND FREE CONVEYOR

• Similar to trolley conveyor however it uses two tracks the first one is
powered and the other one is non powered or free
• Carriers can be disengaged from the power chain and accumulated or
switched onto spurs
MONORAIL

• Overhead single track or track network on which one or more carriers

ride
• Non powered carrier can range from a simple hook toa hoist to an
intelligent vehicle like device
SORTATION CONVEYOR

• 8ortation conveyors are used for merging, identifying, inducting, and

separating products to be conveyed to specific destinations
• Sorters are versatile and can sort a wide range of product sizes and
weights to multiple divert lanes
DIVERTER

• can be used withal most any flat surface because they do not come in
contact with the conveyor
• 8tationary or movable arms that deflect, push or pull a product to
desired destination
• Usually hydraulically or pneumatically operated, but also can be motor
driven
• 8imple and low cost
SLIDING SHOE SORTER

• Uses series of diverter slats that slide across the horizontal surface to
engage product and guide it off
•  Conveyor slats move from side to side as product flows in order to
divert the product to either side
