Owl Friends
The novellette is set in the aftermath of the Mt. Pinatubo
eruption in 1991 when residents were forced to flee their
homes and relocate to safer areas. The story centers around the
unlikely friendship between a young girl and an Aeta boy
despite the prejudices against the Aeta triebe.

01
Two children, Johnny, an Aeta and
Amelia, a lowlander, became
friends. Thanks to a small owl
which sleeps under the Aeta boy’s
frizzy hair. Amelia’s parents are
horrified that their daughter’s best
friend is an Aeta boy.
When their younger son, Julian,
falls deathly sick and there is no
one in the temporary village to
help them, it is Johnny’s Tatang
Mayumoy, an old Aeta steeped in
the knowledge of herbal medicine,
who cures the sick child.
Only then, they change their
attitude towards the tribe, and
Amelia and Jhonny became
friends again.
The End.
