This document discusses applications of silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs). SCRs are four-layer solid-state devices that can control current flow. They can be turned on or off by a small gate current and can switch high voltages. As a result, SCRs are used for switching, rectification, regulation, and protection in various applications. These include controlling appliances, lighting, temperature, fans, heating and alarms in homes as well as motor speed control, battery charging, and power conversion in industries. Specific application circuits illustrated are SCRs as switches, for AC and DC power control, and in half wave rectifiers, full wave bridge rectifiers, and over voltage protection.

Roll NO:- 27501621058 Semester:- 5Th Subject Name-:- Power Electronics. Subject Code:- PCEE504 Silicon controlled rectifier A silicon controlled rectifier or semiconductor controlled rectifier is a four-layer solid-state current-controlling device. The name "silicon controlled rectifier" is General Electric's trade name for a type of thyristor. SCR Applications Due to the wide variety of advantages, like ability to turn ON from OFF state in response to a low gate current and also able to switch high voltages, makes the SCR or thyristor to be used in a variety of applications. These applications include switching, rectification, regulation, protection, etc. The SCRs are used for home appliance control include lighting, temperature control, fan speed regulation, heating, and alarm activation. For industrial applications, SCRs are used to control the motor speed, battery charging and power conversions. Some of them are explained below. Application circuit diagram
