How to Calculate Cattle Weight
1. Measure the circumference of
the animal, as shown in "distance
C" in the illustration. Make sure
to measure girth in relation to
the location of the animal's
heart.

2. Measure the length of the animal's body, as shown in distance A-B

in the illustration.

3.Using the measurements from steps 1 and 2, calculate body weight

using the formula :
[[HEART GIRTH x HEART GIRTH x BODY LENGTH ]
300
Example:
if a beef cow has a heart girth equal to 70 inches and a body
length equal to 78 inches, the calculation would be
(70 x 70 x 78) = 1,274 lb
300
2.2 lbs=1 kg so, 1274 lbs = 579.09 kgs
2.2 lbs/kg
How to Calculate Goat
Weight
• With a measuring tape, measure in inches around the goat’s
heart girth and the distance from the point of the shoulder to
the pinbone.
How to Calculate Goat
Weight
The girth measurement
is taken by placing a
tape or thin piece of
material around the
animal’s girth. The tape
encircles the animal just
behind the withers on
top and just behind the
elbows on the bottom.
How to Calculate Goat
Weight

The length of the animal

from the point of the
shoulder to the pinbone is
also measured. The tape
must be pliable enough to
bend around to the point
of the shoulder and to
the pinbone (identified by
the black arrows) as
shown in this picture.
Example:
heart girth X heart girth X shoulder to pin distance
300
• For example, a mature doe that has a 36 inch heart girth and is
33 inches from the point of shoulder to the pinbone, weighs
approximately 143 pounds:
• (36 X 36 X 33) = 143 pounds
300
• 2.2 lbs=1 kg so, 143 lbs = 65 kgs
2.2 lbs/kg
How to Calculate Pig Weight

• Place the tape/string under the pig just behind the front legs
and measure the circumference of the pigs girth in inches.
This measurement is known as the Heart Girth
How to Calculate Pig Weight

• Then measure the Length of the pig along its back from the
base of its ears to the base of its tail, again in inches
How to Calculate Pig Weight

(heart girth X heart girth )X (Length)

400

• To calculate the pigs weight, first square the Heart

Girth to get the Girth Result.
• Now Multiply the Girth Result by the Length and DIVIDE
by 400.
• You now have the weight of your pig in Pounds.
Example:
• Porky Pig has a Heart Girth of 50 inches and a Length of
40 inches.
• (50 x 50) x (40)= 250 lbs
400
• 2.2 lbs=1 kg so, 250 lbs = 113.64 kgs
2.2 lbs/kg
