• The function of teachers is to help
students learn by imparting knowledge to
them and by setting up a situation in
which students can and will learn
effectively. But teachers fill a complex set
of roles, which vary from one society to
another and from one educational level to
another.

• Teachers are required to understand the need of every child for,

Education for becoming good human being

• So that they can face the realities of life in the new millennium
• Teacher act as a medium to achieve the objectives of excellence
coupled with equity and social justice by way of imparting quality
of education without discrimination so that they become physically
fit, mentally alert, emotionally balanced and spiritually sound
THE TEACHER AS A PERSON
• The teacher being fully entrusted with the patronage
of the young is expected to possess the necessary
attributes such as mental ability, personal qualities,
social traits, aptitude and competence. In her book,
Teacher Education Journal, Dr. Gloria Salandanan
presented the factors that contribute to quality
teaching.
DIFFERENT ROLES OF TEACHERS
• In the teaching learning process, a teacher has a very significant role. In the teaching situations, the
teacher affects the learning of the learners. It is really a primordial concern of a teacher in motivating and
communicating in the learning situation. The teacher is primarily concern for the evaluation of learning.
The management of the learning process of a teacher is based on the process of learning. Influencing the
students to learn in involving the decision of a teacher in his preponderant roles in the classroom.
Among the different professions, the teachers have many diversified roles:
The teacher acts as a manager of learning.
The teacher is an evaluator of learning.
The teacher is a facilitator of learning.
The teacher is a motivator of teaching-learning process.
The teacher acts as a model.
The teacher is a guidance counsellor.
The teacher works with parents.
The teacher has professional responsibilities.
The teacher acts as a doctor or a nurse to students.
