Values education is one of the core subjects under K-12 curriculum. It Is a discipline
wherein all faculties of the learner are involved and the teacher plays a significant role in
modifying abstract to practical values in an environment where is respected for what
he /she is.

Values cover many aspect in human lifeHence ,it is the role of the home ,a school
and community to set foundation for young individuals to become desirable and
productive citizens whose personal disipline is grounded on ethical ,moral and spiritual
values. To bring this vision to reality.Values Education teachers must be commited to
develop the moral foundation of every learner.

Filipino youth of today has become innovative and technologically inclined that new
sets of values have influenced and changed their behaviors. In the advent of change
,much can be done to prepare the next generation for accepting the responsibility to
face these changes and bring back Filipino positive values. The accountability lies on the
teachers effort to guide the welfare of all.Values are generally long –term standards or
principles that are used to judge the worth of an idea or action. They provide the criteria
by which we descide whether something is good or bad ,right and wrong.Teaching
values principles in general make a child feel involved and secure raise inspiration and
achievement and further develop learning skills and personal qualities in enriching his or
her learning experiences.

Ordinary Teachers can bring about extraordinary transformation in the society. A

teacher should practice what he preaches. Teachers are a role-model for the students.
Their actions convey more than their words. Students learn values from what the
teachers are rather than from what they say. Teacher makes a maximum impact on the
personality of a student in the formative years. Students imbibe virtues and vices
knowingly and unknowingly from theses role models. Teachers demonstrate the
appropriate behavior of their students by their actions. Teachers must have healthy
attitude and should possess rich values. Teaching is all about attitudepositive/ negative
towards their job of imparting quality education. Teacher should act as a friend,
philosopher and guide. A teacher is not only a source of information but is also a mentor
and guardian. For this teacher must respect the teaching profession, love her subjects
and students, Students will seek inspiration from teachers who have high self-esteem. A
decade back or so the role of a teacher was limited to being a source of information. But
today this place is shared by books, coaching classes, multimedia technology etc. So
the role of a teacher is marginalized. Role of a teacher has increased manifold. In
modern times we are experiencing transition. A teacher can maintain values and nurture
them. A teacher has an immense potential of bringing about a sea change in the society
by demonstrating essential values of head and heart. Teacher can impart values in
students by giving them instructions through discussion, experimentation and lectures
and by the following mentioned ways: Teachers can maintain a case-study register to
closely observe the students and note down the positive and negative traits of their
personality.Teachers should also tell the students to maintain a spiritual diary in which
they will surrender themselves to God and take an oath to follow the path shown buy
him.By organizing cultural and sports events values like team spirit, sharing, spirit of
cooperation, patience, courtesy etc can be imparted.

Children nowadays do not accept platitudes and lip service statement. They are well-
informed and intelligent due to their exposure to various areas of life. They can observe
and read for themselves the discrepancies between the actions and their talk of many
adults including their parents and teachers.
Therefore, to teach value education in schools in today’s environment is not easy.
Teachers who are assigned to teach character development and value education must
demonstrate interest in professional responsibility and opportunities beyond classroom.
Such a teacher knows that every activity in the classroom ultimately has some impact
on the learning and life of students. The teacher aspiring to teach moral education must
undergo professional training. A trained teacher understands and applies the
appropriate methods and practices to the teaching/learning process to ensure the
students work together to resolve conflicts, develop morally, treat each other with justice
and fairness and respect each other without prejudice. It is, therefore, the teacher that
must have an exemplary role in society as a point of reference in many ways. They
must be the moral role model for their students.
Most important of all is to establish a strong partnership among schools, parents and
neighboring communities. Schools have an important role to play in the moral education
of their students to bring forth the nobility and beauty that are part of every child’s inborn
nature. The curriculum we offer at RiverDale International School is a compelling
response to the flood of messages that promotes materialism and violence and neglects
the ideals of a healthy and prosperous society. This will ensure that our children grow
strong intellectually, morally and spiritually.
