LESSON 1
The Fundamental Teaching of Islam
ISLAM
Derived from two root words: Salam (peace) and Slim (surrender,
submission).

It is a Universal religion. As a religion, Islam stands for


complete submission and obedience to the will of Allah (SWT)
and thus be at peace with the creator and with all that has
been created by Him.
“Verily, the religion (deen) in the sight of
Allah is Islam”
—Surah Aal-Imran 3:19
DEEN
Deen conveys various meaning:

 Power, suzerainty and control

 Obedience and submission

 Compensation and atonement, and

 Way of life, rule of conducts and ideology.


IMAN (faith)
It is an Arabic word, which means ‘to know’ , “to
believe” or “ to be convinced beyond the least
shadow of doubt. Iman or faith, thus, is firm belief
arising out of knowledge and conviction.

Mu’min (Faithful)

The man who knows and reposes in


himself unshakable belief in Allah and

01 Belief in ALLAH (SWT)
Al Imanu Billah

The most fundamental and the most


important teaching or Prophet Muhammad is
faith in the Oneness of Allah SWT (Tawhid).
Allah (SWT) is the Almighty, the creator of
heaven, and earth and all that is between them,
and the creator of all things.

Belief in All His Angels
Al Imanu bi Malaa-Ikatihi

The Angels are the spiritual creatures of


Allah created of light and endowed with life,
speech and reason

Angel who have been named by Allah are :


Jibreel, Mikaael, Israfel, Izraeel, Ridhwaan, Maalik,
Raqiib, Atheed, Munkar and Nakir.

Belief in All His Books
Al Imanu bi kutubihi

Allah revealed commandments & codes of religious (kutub) to


different Messenger at different stage of history for guidance and
mankind.

There are four (4) books revealed:

1 TAWRAH 3 INJIL

2 ZABUR 4 QUR’AN
QUR’AN

The Qur’an is the last Scripture from


Allah and it has been revealed piecemeal
to prophet Muhammad (SAW). It contains
all comprehensible instructions, laws and
all matters concerning the relation between
the creator and His creature (Ibada) &
between man and man (mu’amala)

Prophets were sent by Allah to all


nations at all stages of history to warn
them against their sins and lead them
along the right path.
25 Prophets mentioned in the
holy Qur-an:
1. Adam 6. Ibrahim 11. Yusoph
2. Idris 7. Lut 12. Yunus
3. Nuh 8. Ismail 13. Ayyub
4. Hud 9. Ishaq 14. Shu’aib
5. Salih 10. Ya’qub 15. Harun

18. Dhul’kifli 23. Yahya
19. Da’wud 24. Isa

PROPHET MUHAMMAD (SAW)

He is the “last and seal of all Prophets”


(Khatam-an Nabbiyin) No more prophet after
him. The Glorious Qur’an , was revealed to him.

Belief in the Day of Judgement
Al Imanu bil Yawmil Akhir

The day of Judgement is called “Qiyamah”


The day when all human who had lived in the
world will be restored to life and will be presented
before Allah.

Man will go either to Paradise (Jannah ) or to


Hell (Nar)

Belief in Measurement of
Good and Evil
Al Imanu bil Qadri Khayrihi wa
Sharrihi Minallahi Ta’alaa

It is the believe in
predestination. The true Muslim
believe in the timeless
knowledge of God and in His
power to plan and execute His
plans
“But perhaps you hate a thing and it is good
for you; and perhaps you love a thing and it
is bad for you . And Allah knows, while you
know not.”

- Surah Al Baqarah 2:216
