The mangrove jungle
The mangrove jungle is a type of a
mangrove biome* that is a
productive wetland*. It is in India,
the worlds 7th largest country, on
the river Ganges that runs into the
sea. This area is covered by water
with 100 islands called the
Sunderbans.

*Wetland-distinct ecosystem that is flooded or


saturated by water.
*The mangrove biome-often called the mangrove forest
or mangal, is a distinct saline woodland.
People of the mangrove jungle
People of the mangrove jungle are a
close community who live and work
side-by-side and support each other
in their work and personal lives.
The men in the community help the
village in the case of a flood and
other disasters.
The challenges of living in the mangrove jungle

Life in the mangrove jungle


isn’t easy. People live on a few
rice fields and the fish they
catch. Water also floods the
village every few years,
destroying homes and ruining
the rice fields.
