WHAT IS CURRICULUM?

 Curriculum is a general over-all plan of the content or specific materials of


instruction that the school should offer the student by means of qualifying them
for graduation or certification or for entrance into a professional or vocational
field.
CURRICULUM IS…

 A set of subjects.
 Content
 A program or studies

 A sequence of course

 Traditional point of view of the curriculum – a body of the subjects or subject


matter prepared by the teachers for the students to learn.

 Smith, Stanley and Shores defined curriculum as a “ sequence of potential
experiences set up in schools for the purpose of disciplining children and youth in
group ways of thinking and acting.”

PURPOSE OF THE CURRICULUM

 Standardizes the learning goals for an entire school and provides a clear path for
students to progress from one grade to another.
 Providing a structured plan for teaching and learning that outlines what student
should know and be able to do at different stages of their education.
 Guides and informs instruction, assessment, and the development of educational
resources.
 To enable each child or young person to be a successful learner, a confident
individual, a responsible citizen and an effective contributor.
