Summary

Day 2
ACT ONE
• In Athens, Theseus is
preparing for his wedding
when he hears that Hermia is
refusing to marry Demetrius.
• Theseus proposes Hermia
accepts her father’s choice of
groom, or be put to death
under the law of Athens.
• Hermia and Lysander elope,
but mistakenly tell Helena.
ACT TWO • Oberon instructs Puck to cause
Titania to fall in love with the next
creature she sees, however
repulsive.
• Upon seeing Helena’s love for
Demetrius, Oberon also asks Puck
to drop the love potion on “the
Man of Athens’ eyes”
• Puck squeezes the juice of the
magic flower into the eyes of
Lysander (the OTHER Man of
Athens) and Titania.
• Lysander falls helplessly in love
with Helena.
ACT THREE
• Puck turns Bottom’s head into
that of an ass.
• Bottom’s singing awakes Titania,
who falls in love with him.
• Oberon causes Demetrius to fall
in love with Helena.
• Hermia believes Helena
betrayed her and they quarrel.
• Oberon orders Puck to help him
correct the situation.
ACT FOUR
• Oberon releases Titania from her
enchantment.
• The lovers awaken to the love of
their proper partners.
• Demetrius tell his father that he
wishes to marry Helena.
• Bottom, his head restored by
Puck, believes the night’s events
are a dream and returns to take
charge of his play.
ACT FIVE
• The marriages of Theseus &
Hippolyta, Lysander &
Hermia, and Demetrius &
Helena are performed.
• Bottom and his workmates
perform their play to much
appreciation.
• Oberon, Titania and the
fairies appear to bless the
marriages.
