Streams murmur merrily, Sparrows fuss,
A soft shadow falls, Today is a festive day.

day of the eighth of March

everywhere! Let the sun
shine! Let the frost go!
Let the mimosa sprig
drive away the winter!
The history of the holiday
Already in ancient Rome there was a
women's day, which was celebrated by
matrons. On this day, matrons - freely
born women who are married, received
gifts from their husbands, were
surrounded by love and attention.

Slaves also received gifts. And

besides this, the mistress of the
house allowed the slaves to rest
that day. Dressed in the best
clothes, with fragrant wreaths on
their heads, the Roman women
came to the temple of the
goddess Vesta, the keeper of the
hearth
The history of the holiday

Why is International Women's Day

celebrated on March 8th?
On this day, March 8, 1857, women
who worked as textile workers in
factories marched through the
streets of New York, expressing
their protest against the harsh
working conditions and low pay.
The demonstration was broken up.
This event became known as
"Women's Day"
More than 50 years have passed,
and on the last Sunday of
February, already in 1908,
thousands of women again took to
the streets of New York. This
demonstration was timed to
coincide with the same "Women's
Day" in 1857.

Women again spoke out against

the terrible working conditions,
and especially against the labor of
children. The police were ordered
to disperse the demonstration.
Dirty ice water hoses were
launched
The following year, 1909,
"Women's Day" was again marked
by marches and women's strikes.
In 1910, Women's Day was held
throughout the country.

Later, the delegates went from the

USA to Copenhagen for the
International Conference of
Women Socialists, where they met
with Clara Zetkin ...
Clara Zetkin proposed to raise the issue at the conference that
women around the world choose a certain day when they will draw
public attention to their demands.
But only in 1914, for the first time everywhere, International Women's
Day was held on March 8, since it coincided with Sunday, that is, with
a non-working day. Yes, and he was fixed on this date
For the first time in Russia, International Women's Day
was celebrated in 1913 in St. Petersburg

The following year, in many European countries, on or about

March 8, women organized marches to protest against the war.
After the collapse of the Soviet
Union, March 8 remained in the list
of public holidays of the Russian
Federation.

International Women's Day March 8 from the first years of Soviet

power has become a public holiday. Since 1965, this day has
become a holiday. Gradually, International Women's Day in the
country lost its political connotation.
In 1977, the UN adopted a
resolution calling on all countries
to proclaim March 8 as a day for
the struggle for women's rights -
International Women's Day

This day is declared a holiday in

the republics of the former USSR,
as well as in: Angola, Burkina
Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Cambodia,
Congo, Laos, Macedonia,
Mongolia, Nepal, North Korea and
Uganda

In Russia, International Women's Day has been celebrated since

consider it a holiday.
Since 2002,
International Women's
Day has been
celebrated in Russia as
a "non-working

March for us is a
holiday of women of all

selectively, as in other
countries

The celebration of March 8 in Russia includes an

established "ritual" of giving flowers and gifts to women

pay bills. Men prepare festive dishes at
home
France, Germany

There is no day off and festivities, as in our country, on this day.

Among the Germans, the news
only mentions International
Women's Day, but women are not
congratulated on this day. March 8
is celebrated only in the Eastern
part of the country. Women on this
day are officially exempt from
frying sausages and washing
dishes.

In France, on March 8,
conferences on the legal issues of
women are held. Men congratulate
women on Mother's Day, in May.
Women's Day does not apply to

called Girls' Day. Girls in this country are loved: there is another
day that is allotted for them - November 15, however, not everyone
is congratulated, but only three- and seven-year-old children. They
are dressed in bright kimonos, do old hairstyles, blush their
cheeks and take them to the temple to pray for good health and
well-being.
Vietnam
In this country, women have been
congratulated for two thousand years.
Previously, this holiday was called
Chung Sisters Memorial Day. They
were brave girls who led the
Vietnamese people's liberation war
against Chinese aggression. When
their army was surrounded, the girls
rushed into the river so as not to
surrender. After the victory of
socialism in Vietnam, the Day of
Remembrance of the Trung sisters
smoothly turned into March 8
China

The holiday of March 8 passes very

imperceptibly for the Chinese. Nobody
receives congratulations. In addition, it is
not customary to give cut flowers here, so
only foreigners, and mostly Russians, are
busy buying bouquets on the eve of this
day in Beijing.
