What is AWHONN?

● A national organization for those practicing in the women's health and OB specialty
areas
● A leader in guiding clinicians in practice, providing specialty specific education via print,
webinar, and in-person events
● Also active in legislative initiatives to improve care for moms and babies.
What is AWHONN to you?

● Lori Felton

● A way to answer clinical questions
● A great networking opportunity
● Provides a wealth of expert knowledge
What is your role within in AWHONN?

● Serves as the AWHONN Ohio Event Coordinator and is an active member.


● Responsibility as the event coordinator is oversight and planning of the annual two day
conference.
How does AWHONN accomplish their goals?

● Actively conduct research


● Provide accurate evidence-based education
● Work at both the state and national level to get legislation passed
Do you feel AWHONN doesn’t reach every population it wants
to? If so, what are your ideas on how that could be changed?

● In her opinion, one of the hindrances of AWHONN is the cost of membership.


● A full membership being $200
● An e-membership being $100
○ More attractive to nurses
● The price is required, though, for day-to-day operational expenses and to be capable of
doing the work required to accomplish their goals.
What is one downside to AWHONN that, if you had the
power to, you would change?

● The costs
○ Cost to join
○ Cost to attend a national convention
○ To reach a larger population, the cost has to be within the means of a larger population, she
believes it is not
● Also wants more nurses in the OB speciality to see the value of AWHONN
