INTRIDUCTION
➢ Arunachal Pradesh means the Land of Dawn-Lit Mountains and Orchid state of India is a state in
Northeast India
.➢ It was formed from the erstwhile North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) region and became a state on
20 February 1987.
➢ It is the largest state of the Seven Sisters, and its capital is Itanagar . Its official animal is Gayal.
➢ Population in this state is m ore than 12 Lakhs.
➢ About 26 m ajor tribes and 100 sub-tribes live here, the Aka tribe, the Galo tribe and the Naga tribes
are the famous tribes in this state.
WAY OF LIVING
➢ A unifying feature is the fact that they maintain a sym
biotic relationship with nature and the land they live off.
➢ Their houses are made from bamboo and stilts which
makes it a very sustainable shelter They practice shifting
agriculture and wetland cultivation and follow a tradition
of craftsmanship, including cane and bam boo w ork,
weaving and basket making.
➢ The tribes also follow an indigenous practice the of
worshipping Sun and Moon God and this is called
DonyiPolo.

Clothes of Tribes

➢ The tribal people prefer w earing clothes indigenous


organic materials only. The raw materials used are
basically goat hair, hum an hair, tree barks etc.
➢ Using all these, they create skirts, shawls, ceremonial
coats, etc. The colours preferred by the local craftsmen
are dark blue, scarlet, yellow, emerald, black etc.
➢ The origin of these colours are natural dyes, extracted
from trees, flowers, barks and seeds. The skull caps
know n as Gurdam sworn by the M onpa tribe are m ade
of yak hair.
The Sherdukpan Tribe
➢ Sherdukpan male wears sleeveless silk material with its
edges attached to the shoulder. The costume falls down
till knee length. The look is complete only after a skull
cap which has yak's hair decorated on it is w orn on top of
the head.
➢ Women w ear collarless and sleeveless dresses till knee
length. Along with this, a w ear w aist cloth along with a
full embroidered jacket having full sleeves is worn. Wom
en make a bun on the backside of their head and have
super-aw esome weaving skills.
➢ These tribes are agriculturists, although these tribes
follow fishing and hunting and gathering.
The Tangsa Tribe
➢ This tribe wears costumes on similar lines to Burmese.
The men wear green coloured wrap arodspun in white, red
as w ell as yellow coloured yarn. A sleeveless shirt along w
ith an upper garment too is worn.
➢ Women, on the other hand, w ear a petticoat which is
intricately w oven and is extremely catchy to the eyes.
Along w ith it, a linen blouse is worn too.
➢ These tribes practice shifting cultivation and w et rice
cultivation.

➢ Rice is a staple food in Arunachal Pradesh food, and any other food is just a side dish. The most important and
different thing about their rice is that in Arunachal, they prefer to cook their rice in the hollow bam boo over some hot
coal to give it a different flavour than other types of rice.
➢ Bam boo shoot is widely eaten through all the North Eastern States because of its delicate flavour and is a chief com
ponent of food in Arunachal Pradesh. The delicious bam boo shoots are used in the dishes of boiled vegetables, cooked
m eat, pickles and chutneys.
➢ Pehak is also a side dish delicacy of Arunachal Pradesh Food. Pehak is a type of spicy chutney that is made by the use
of fermented soya bean and chilli. The chilly obviously being the King chilly is the main ingredient in this dish as that's w
hat makes it hot and spicy. The taste of flavored rice along with this spicy tangy m ash makes for an awesome dish.
➢ It is just another nam e for rice beer and is one of the most important traditional drink of Arunachal and form s an im
portant part of cuisine in Arunachal Pradesh. This beer is home-made, free of any chemicals and is also light on the buds
if you're a light drinker and w ant a little light beer instead of the usual strong commercialized one.
➢ Pehak is also a side dish delicacy of Arunachal Pradesh Food. Pehak is a type of spicy chutney that is made by the use
