- Santiago Alvarez wanted to write a
narrative of the Revolution as it
happened, “in the interest of
honorable truth, acceptable to all”. He
wanted to shed lights on the
different facets of the Revolution,
for the youth whom he
considered as the direct beneficiary
of his work.

Context of the

- On march 14, 1896 Santiago V. Alvarez, Emilio Aguinaldo and
Raymundo Mata accompanied for their initiation in Katipunan secret
society in Manila. They reached manila in about five in the afternoon
and waited at the quarters of Jacinto Lumbreras. they pledge to destroy
oppression by signing their names in their own blood, when the ritual is
over. The crowd of a happy katipuneros warmly embrace the neophytes
amid shout " Brother!, brother!" While still blindfolded, the neophytes
were escorted down the house and cordially sent off with a repetition of
fraternal embrace.

- Emilio Aguinaldo asked Santiago V Alvarez
to see the Supremo Bonifacio again to learn
more about katipunan. They made a trip to
manila on April 6, 1896 In those days,
Santiago and Aguinaldo traveled Cavite to
Manila by a Spanish vessel called "Ynchausti
Boats“.

- Aguinaldo and Alvarez left the pier at
Cavite at seven in the morning and arrived
an hour later in Manila. Aguinaldo went to
port office to attend some business while
Alvarez waited outside. When he comes out
after ten minutes, he was agitated.
Aguinaldo exchanged sharp words with
Ramon Padilla that made him flustered
during his conversation with Bonifacio,
where they met in Dr. Valenzuela’s house.
Bonifacio noticed that something was
bothering him as soon as Alvarez mention
9 the story to him.
- On September 28, 1896, Captain General Apoy and General
Vibora prepared to go to the field to inspect fortifications
along the Cavite-Batangas border. But before they could leave,
Major Aklan came to the war ministry to report that they had
sighted the enemy fortifying the narrowest neck of
Dalahikan. The enemy activity, which had started in the
night, included the massing of Spanish troops.

1. Accordingto Alvarez’s memoirs, what was the purpose of
Aguinaldo’s second visit to the supremo?
- The purpose of Aguinaldo’s second visit in the supremo is to learn
more about the Katipunan because the specifically goal of the
Katipunan was political, the separation of the Philippines from Spain
and also to recognized and performed a civic duty which was mutual
assistance and the defense of the poor and the oppressed.

2. How did the Supremo treat Aguinaldo on the latter’s visit?
- First Aguinaldo before he arrive at the Binondo, he met Ramon
Padilla which he had exchange some sharp word with him at the port
office. After that, he met Supremo at the rent house of Dr. Pio
Valenzuela and he was treated warmly and they were happy because of
the outcome of the Katipunan organization which is held by Andres
Bonifacio.

CONCLUSION
- We therefore conclude that Santiago Alvarez wants a free
country from a Spaniards and he wrote this work because he is
the child of a revolutionary general named Mariano Alvarez
and he want us to know what happen back then and he want
us to tell the truth about the history, For the young people he
saw as the direct beneficiaries of his labor, he wished to shed
insight into the various aspects of the Revolution.
