Fragments and Run-

ons
A sentence is a fragment if it does not have all three of the following
(INDEPENDENT CLAUSE):

1. subject (noun)- who or what?


2. verb- action or being
3. a complete thought- you DO
NOT expect more words.
Verbs you may not know are verbs!
To be verbs:
Am
Be
Is
Being
Are
Been
Was
Were
A sentence is a fragment

A run-on is two or more complete
thoughts/ sentences improperly
joined.
Two types of run- 1. No Punctuation- two or more
complete thoughts/sentences that are

ons:
joined with no punctuation

2. Comma Splice- two or more


complete sentences joined by only a
comma
1. End punctuation-make separate
sentences out of each complete

Three ways to fix thought

2. Semicolon-join two sentences at a


run-ons: time that have related ideas

3. Comma before FANBOYS- use a


comma and a coordinating
conjunction (FANBOYS) to connect
two complete ideas at a time
Coordinating Conjunctions-(to join two independent
clauses🡪COMPOUND SENTENCE)
These are your coordinating conjunctions, or
FANBOYS!
