FIESTA (The Sun Also Rises)

FIESTA (in English The Sun Also Rises) is a


novel by Ernest Hemingway (1899–1961).
Written in 1926, it is considered the author's first
important work. In it he describes the story of a
series of characters belonging to the so-called
Lost Generation of the interwar period, in a
series of trips to France and Spain.

After the First World War, Jake Barnes an American journalist
sexually incapacitated by a war wound and Brett Ashley a
nurse in the war, during which they both had a relationship,
meet again in Paris between the wars where they will relate to
each other. with the American community. Much of the setting
of the initial part of the novel will revolve around this group
and the places they frequent.

From there Jake, Brett and their companions Cohn, Bill and Mike head to Spain to
fish and to attend the Sanfermines, in Pamplona. During the festivities, described in
detail, there will be a series of love problems starring Brett, involving Michael, her
boyfriend, Cohn, with whom she has had an affair weeks before, and Pedro Romero, a
promising bullfighter and in which Barnes' position as a simple spectator will be
highlighted. After finishing the festivities the group will dissolve, ending the story in
Madrid.
