Rectal Polyps

Muskan Muhemmed
Patient Profile
The patient is a 45-year-old male who presented to the clinic with
complaints of rectal bleeding and discomfort during bowel movements.
The patient reports that he has been experiencing these symptoms for
the past few months and has noticed some changes in his bowel habits.
Physical Examination
Upon examination, the patient was found to have several anal polyps.
The polyps appeared as small, raised bumps on the surface of the anus.
They were not painful to the touch, but were causing some irritation and
discomfort during bowel movements.
Diagnostics
To confirm the diagnosis of anal polyps, the patient underwent a colonoscopy.
The colonoscopy revealed several small polyps in the rectum and anus. A biopsy was taken to
confirm that the polyps were noncancerous.
Other diagnostic tests that may be used to evaluate anal polyps include:
1. Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
2. Virtual Colonoscopy
3. Barium Enema
Treatment
The treatment for anal polyps typically
involves surgical removal of the polyps.
In this case, the patient underwent a
procedure called a polypectomy. During
this procedure, the polyps were
removed using a wire loop that was
passed through the colonoscope. The
procedure was performed under
sedation, and the patient was able to go
home the same day.
Treatment
The patient was advised to avoid constipation and straining during
bowel movements.
He was also advised to follow a high-fiber diet and to drink plenty of
water to help prevent the recurrence of anal polyps. The patient was
scheduled for a follow-up colonoscopy in six months to monitor for any
recurrence of the polyps.
