ADULT CARDIAC ARREST
• Sudden cardiac arrest is an abrupt cessation of
cardiac mechanical function which may be reversible
by prompt intervention, but will lead to death in its
absence.
• It can happen anytime, anywhere and to anyone,
even if they appear healthy.
CARDIAC ARREST RHYTHMS
• Ventricular Fibrillation (V-Fib)
• Pulseless Ventricular Tachycardia (PVT)
• Asystole
• Pulseless Electrical Activity (PEA)
VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION
• An arrythmia that occurs when the ventricles beath with
rapid & erratic electrical impulses
• Causes the ventricles to quiver instead of pumping blood
VENTRICULAR FIBRILLATION
PULSELESS VENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA
• Very rapid but ineffective ventricular contractions leading
to insufficient organ perfusion & heart failure
PULSELESS VENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA
ASYSTOLE
• Absence of electrical and mechanical activity in the heart
ASYSTOLE
PULSELESS ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY
• An organized slow rhythm that does not produce a pulse
PULSELESS ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY
