What is an autobiography?

An autobiography is the biography of oneself narrated


by oneself . Popular examples include Spare by Prince
Harry and ‘I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette
McCurdy.
Features
● Writes in the first person (I/Me)
● Writes in chronological order with time connectives.
● Includes memories, influences and achievements.
● Uses names of individuals, places and dates for specific
events.
● Includes hopes and plans for the future.
Tone
Autobiographies can be written with humorous, funny tones
and also experiences are expressed in sad and indifferent tone
as well. When authors write about their past, it is not free
from emotions. Therefore, it may be written in the sad,
humorous or indifferent tone as the author chooses to.
Authors often use a reflective tone.
Context
Autobiographies are written to portray the life experiences and
achievements of the author. Therefore, most autobiographies are
typically written later in the subject's life. It's written from the point
of view of the author, so it typically uses first person accounts to
describe the story.
Structur

Setup. Early childhood experiences, introducing family members, describing home life,
school, friendships, family customs, and other foundational facts.

Complication or crisis. Early adulthood experiences that caused strife, such as parents
divorcing, moving out of state, substance abuse, or failed relationships. Major twists in
your adult life, and pivotal moments that eventually lead to a major life achievement or
victory.
Resolution. This is where the theme of the book comes to fruition, where the author
reveals the lessons learned after rising above adversity.
What is a
biography?
In simple terms a biography is a story of a person’s life. The
person could either be dead or alive.Often times the “person”
is globally famous for either good or bad reasons. A
biography is written by someone else. Examples of
biographies are; Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow,
Churchill A life by Martin Gilbert and so on

The tone of the biography depends on who the biography is
dedicated to. Some biographies are written with a humorous
tone, while others may be reflective or respectful.The tone
could also be a mixture of these different tones.
