PERIOD OF ACTIVISM

Group 8
Activism - The policy or action of using vigorous campaigning to
bring about political or social change.

.
The Period of Bloody Placards- Activism is
connected with history of our Filipino youth.
Because of the ills
of the society, the youth moved to seek reforms.
The seeds of activism resulted in the declaration
of Martial Law in 1972
until 1981.
The Literary Revolution- The youth became completely rebellious during
this period. This was proven not only in the bloody demonstrations and in the
sidewalk expressions but also in Literature. Campus newspapers showed
rebellious emotions. Writers developed awareness for society. They held pens
and wrote on placards in red paint the equivalent of the word MAKIBAKA (to
dare).
Writing During the Period of Activism- The
irreverence for the poor reached its peak during this
period of the
mass revolution. It was also during this period that
Bomba films that
discredit our ways as Filipinos started to came out.
Theater PETA (Philippine Education Theater Association) Repertory
Philippines Teatro Filipino , Founded in 1967 by Cecile-Guidote
Alvarez, the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) is an
organization of creative and critical artist-teacher-cultural workers
committed to artistic excellence and a people's culture that fosters
both personal fulfillment and social transformation.
Palanca Awards - Established in 1950. The
Palanca Awards or Don Carlos Palanca Memorial
Awards are literary awards of the Philippines.
Short story

1 st Place – “The Ritual” by Cirilo F. Bautista In relation to the time of Ferdinand


Marcos, we can portray that that the people of Dayleg are the Filipino Citizens. The
people were left to endure the effects of Dayleg’s mistakes when he left, and so did the
Filipinos. When Marcos’ term ended, the Philippines drowned in debt because the loans
that Marcos borrowed from the World Bank. Aside from leaving our with financial
problems, he also marked the minds of the citizens with death and corruption for those
who had family members or friends that died during his time.

2nd Place – (BEAST IN THE FIELDS SHORT STORY ) Beasts of the Field reveals diverse
patterns of life and labor in the fields that varied among different crops, regions, time
periods, and racial and ethic groups.

3 rd Place – “Children of the City” by Amadis Ma. Guerrero The story ended when
the author realized how cruel the world is, where workers were made to sign statements
certifying they received minimum wage, where millionaire politicians received Holy
Communion every Sunday, where mothers taught their sons and daughters the art of
begging, where orphans and children from broken homes slept on pavements and under
darkened bridges, and where best friends fell out and betrayed one another.
Poetry

1 st Place – “Tomato Game” by NVM Gonzales It is the story of


an old man who asked his attorney Sopi to help arranged Alice and Tony
Boy’s visa. Alice is said to be the bride of the old man. The old man who
lives in America loved Alice so much that he let Alice’s lover – Tony Boy
go with her.

2 nd Place – “The Apollo Centennial” by Gregorio C.


Brillantes Apollo Centennial” is set in 2069, a hundred
years after the 1969 lunar expedition, and it tells the story
of Arcadio Nagbuya, an indigent farmer who takes his
family to see a travelling exhibit of artefacts and mementos
from the now 100 year-old lunar landing.

3rd Place – “After this, our exile” by Elsa


Martinez Conscolluela ,In other words, this life
right here, this earthly existence is our exile. For
as long as we are here, we are separated from our
true home, our place of ultimate belonging, by
the thin veil that hangs between us and God,
here and there, now and eternity.
