(Musa acuminata) Peelings on the Growth and

Yield of Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum) as a
Natural Growth Enhancer

Introduction

Over the last century, the global population has

quadrupled. Earlier, in 1915, the world
population was 1.8 billion. Today according to
the most recent estimate by the United Nations,
there are 7.3 billion people - and may reach 9.7
billion by 2050.

This increase in the population as well as the

income rising in developing countries is also
causing an increase in demand for food.
With such rampant increase in population,
industrialization and to meet such high demand of
food, the farmers have to produce more and more
food.

Objectives
This study was elucidated to check the efficacy of pulverized banana (Musa acuminata) peel
as a natural growth enhancer on tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum).

This study seeks to answer the following questions:

a) Is there a significant difference in the different amount of banana (Musa acuminata)
peelings as growth enhancer on the growth of tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum)?
b) Do the different amount of banana (Musa acuminata) be effective as growth enhancer on
the growth of tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum)?
Hypothesis

There is no significant difference in the effectiveness of banana (Musa

acuminata) peeling on the growth of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum).
Materials and Methods
The peelings of Banana (Musa acuminata) is
known to contain great amount of nutrients.

• Phosphorus • Nitrogen
• Calcium • Sodium
• Potassium • Sulfur
• Magnesium

These nutrients are essential to the growth of a

plant. Aside from that, banana peelings are
usually discarded after eating. That’s why
banana peeling is one of the example that can
be used.
Materials and Methods

Replicates
• Treatment one, with 25g of pulverized
banana peelings
T1 • Treatment two, with 50g of pulverized
banana peelings
T2 • Treatment three, with 75g of pulverized
T3 banana peelings
• Treatment four, with 30g of synthetic
T4 fertilizer
T5 • Treatment five, untreated
Materials and Methods
• After the first application of the treatments,
growth parameters were gathered weekly;

• Height of the plant was measured;

• Counting the number of leaves;

• Yield of tomato are gathered by weighing using

weighing scale;

• The statistical tools used was mean which is used

to calculate for the average scores of the
treatment and the other tools was “Analysis of
Variance”;
