AS GROWTH
ENHANCER ON
CAPSICUM ANNUUM"

INTRODUCTIO

Continuous and consistent application of inorganic fertilizers causes plant
tissues to absorb and accumulate heavy metals, lowering the nutritional quality
of the plant. Overuse of inorganic fertilizers has resulted in pollution by
destroying physical characteristics, accumulating toxic chemicals in water
bodies, and causing environmental problems and biodiversity loss. Organic
Fertilizers such as animal manure, as well as a combination oforganic and
inorganic fertilizers can be used as an alternative to reduce the use of inorganic
fertilizers. Organic fertilizers, as opposed to inorganic fertilizers, improve soil
physical and chemical properties while maintaining soil quality (MPDI., 2020).
Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium (NPK) is needed by the plants to
grow and thrive and become more productive. According to ICavess
(2021), Goat manure has great potential as a source of organic fertilizer
for plants. A solid Goat manure contains 46.58% organic, it has
components such as 4.9% nitrogen, 4.1% phosphorus, 1.9% potassium,
1.0% calcium, and 0.9% magnesium. The addition of manure to the soil
organic matter which contributes to overall soil health. On the other hand,
based on the phytochemical analysis on the mineral content of Carica
papaya peel, it was found out that the peel contains calcium, phosphorus,
zinc, potassium, magnesium, sodium and iron which is needed by the
plants to grow (Hubert et al., 2017).
This study aims to determine the efficacy of goat manure and Carica
papaya peel as growth enhancer on Capsicum annuum. This study will
be beneficial to farmers with an alternative and eco-friendly method of
enhancing crop growth, and it may contribute to the reduction of the
negative impacts of inorganic fertilizer that can adversely affect the
environment.
OBJECTIVES
OF THE STUDY
General Objective:

This study aims to determine the efficacy of goat

manure and Carica papaya peel as growth enhancer on
Capsicum annuum.
Specific Objectives:

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the

following questions;

1. What amount of goat manure and Carica papaya peel

is effective as growth enhancer on Capsicum annuum in
terms of height of the stem and number of leaves?
2. Is there a significant difference on the effectiveness of
goat manure and Carica papaya peel as growth enhancer
on Capsicum annuum in terms of the height of the stem
and number of leaves?

Gathering of Materials

Goat manure that will be used in this study is the feces of grass-fed goats as
growth enhancer on Capsicum annuum. The Capsicum annuum (bell pepper)
seeds will be purchased at Ace hardware, SM City, Iloilo. Carica papaya peels
will be collected at the researchers house. The tools that will be used are hoes
to clean the land, watering cans for watering the plants and a yardstick to
measure plant height.
Planting of Capsicum annuum

Capsicum annuum seeds will be planted at an experimental field using

completely randomized design. The soil will be prepared manually by
cleaning the grass, digging plant holes with space 15x15cm in a 9 squared
meters field. The seeds will be planted in the soil and will be kept watered
for 4 weeks until it has reached the right age for treatment.
Preparing different amount of Treatments

The experimental design that will be used is completely randomized design

(CRD) with ¼ kilogram goat manure and Carica papaya peel for Capsicum
annuum plants aged 1-4 weeks. The treatments that will be used in this study
are;

T1 = Goat manure 100%

T2 = Goat manure 75% + 25% Carica papaya peel
T3 = Goat manure 50% + 50% Carica papaya peel
T4 = Carica papaya peel 100%
T5 = Commercial fertilizer
T6 = No treatment
Applying the Treatments

The first treatment which is composed of pure Goat manure will be

applied to three plots which will be labelled as Treatment 1. The
following procedure will be repeated using Treatment 2 which is
composed of 75% Goat manure and 25% Carica papaya peel. Another
treatment will be followed which is Treatment 3 that is composed of 50%
Goat manure and 50% Carica papaya peel. And lastly, Treatment 4 which
is composed of pure Carica papaya peel.
Gathering the Data

The height of the Capsicum annuum will be measured and recorded every
other day along with the number of leaves to determine the effectiveness of
goat manure and Carica papaya peel as growth enhancer to Capsicum annuum.
Statistical Tool

Mean and Standard deviation will be used to determine the effectiveness

of goat manure and Carica papaya peel as growth enhancer on Capsicum
annuum. Data will be analyzed statistically using One Way Analysis of
Variance (ANOVA) to determine the significant difference between the
treatments.
