INTRODUCTCION
Pechay (Brassicca chinensis L.) is one of the common leafy vegetable crops grown in
the Philippines belonging to the family crusiferia. Vegetables are important and substantial
source of food that significantly contributes to the quality of the diet because it provides
variety of nutrients various part of enumerable kinds of vegetables make meals of staple
food appetizing because of their flavor and even pleasing to the eyes.
the human diet are vitamins A and C as source of iron and calcium needed by the human
body. Pechay is the annual biennial herb. Its leaves are smooth, 30 cm long, broad at the tip
narrowing gradually at the base extending downward to the uppered of its elongated, their
Pechay can grown in any types of soil. The plants become more healthy to life,
sandy- 10 am and weel-drained soil with ph level of 5-4-6-7. Pechay still needed sunlight
lightly for energy. It is important that there is a shade so that exposure to sun is limited.
OBJECTIVES
The general objective of the study will is determine the growth and yield
performance of pechay (Brassicca chinensis L.) applied with different animal manure.
1. Determine the growth performance of pechay (Brassicca chinensis L.) in terms of count,
2. Determine the yield performance of pechay in terms of fresh weight and marketable yeild.
This study will give additionalinformation to the especialy to those who want to
enjoy pechay production. This could help the farmers to improve the grouwth and yield of
the crops. If could also serve as a reference for future reseachers, study ,teachers and policy
This study will be focused on the evaluation on the growth and yield performance of
The following terms are defined to provide better understanding of the study.
Pechay - the experimental unit of the study.
Growth - refers to the increase of the pechay as to its plany height and number of leaves.
whhich are use to gain more information and further insights to the present work.
Pechay (Brassicca chinensis L.) is a leafy, shallow rooted, cool-season crop but can
stand higher temperatures given it is exposed to enough moisture. Is an erect, biennial herb,
cultivated as an annual abouut 150-30 cm tall in vegetative stage. Ovate leaves are arranged
spirally and spreading. The petioles are enlarged and grow upright forming a sub-cylindrical
bundle. Inflorescence is a raceme with pale yellow flowers. Seeds are 1 mm in diameter and
are reddish is used for its immature but fully expanded tender leaves. The succulent petioles
are often the preferred part. It is used as main ingredient for soup and stir-fried dishes. In
chinese cuisine, its green petioles and leaves are also used as garnish. Varieties of Pechay
Black Beni; Hari Digma; Shinn Kang Gengis Khan; Shanhai No.2
Pechay (Brassicca chinensis L.) this food is very low of saturated fat and cholesterol.
It is also a good source of dietary fiber, protein, thiamin, niacin and phosporus and a very
source of vitamin A, vitamin B and vitamin K. Riboflavin, vitamin B, folate, calcium iron,
Characteristics of Different
Organic fertilizer are naturally available mineral sources that contain moderate
amount of plant essential nutrients. They are capable of mitigating problems associated with
synthetic fertilizers. They reduce the necessity of repeated application of synthetic fertilizer
to maintain soil fertility. They gradually release nutrients into the soil solution and maintain
nutrient balance for healthy growth of crop plants. They also act like effective energy source
of soil microbes which in turn improve soil structure and crop growth.Organic fertilizer are
generally thought to be slow releasing fertilizer and they contain many trace elements. They
organic fertilizers is an effective and advanced way to overcome these impact and maintain
sustainable agriculture yield.Organic fertilizer is a type of fertilizer that contains raw matters
brought together to increase and enhance crop yield. There are different types of organic
called natural fertilizers;they greatly improve the nature and structure of the soil for the
characteristics are what actually justify the purpose of their use.The characteristics entail
their nutrient composition and availability;the role they play in the soil nature development.
Garden soil
Garden are pre-mixed soil products that are added to the existing soil in the
garden. It consists of topsoil and a mixture of the other materials and nutrients will help the
plants to develop to their full potential .
Goat manure
Rich in nitrogen levels, which makes it an excellent soil conditioner.Goat manure
improve soil texture which in turns provides a rich environments for grow as well as allow
for excellent water retention.Using goat manure in garden beds can create optimal growing
conditions for plats. The naturally dry pellets are not only easy to collect and apply but are
less messy than other types of manure.
Cow manure
It also known as cow dung,is mostly digested grass, and depending on cattle’s
diet, grain, fruit,or vegetables.Cow mature is rich in nutrients and its suitable for plant growth
it maybe smelly and gross, but gardener can deny the benefits of cow manure .Using these
fertilizer is an age-old practice that can bring overworked soil back to life.
Chicken manure
Chicken manure also used in organic fertilization, especially for soil low in nitrogen of all
animals manure,it has the highest amount of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium.
OPERATIONAL FRAMEWORK
The study will be anchored on the concept of the growth and yield performance of
Pechay (dependent variable) will have a varying effect to different animal manure
(independent variable).

independent variable of the study.
METHODOLOGY
This chapter presents the materials, tools, equipment and procedure that will use on
the study.
Materials
The materials that use in the study are gloves, bolo, shovel, bamboo, animal manure,
gallon,and pechay seeds.
Procedure
1. Prepare the materials needed gloves, bolo, shovel, bamboo, animal manures and pechay
seed.
Experimental Design
A total of 240 plants will be used on the study which will randomly distributed to 4
treatments and 3 replications each treament will consist of 20 plants. The study will be laid
out in one fertorial experiment in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). The
treatments are the following:
Experimental Layout
0.5m
4m
Figure 2. Experimental layout of the study.
Seed box
The seed box will be prepared and filled in with soil media with ration of 1:1:1
which is (1) part sand , one (1) part compost and one (1) part garden soil.
Planting
Drop 2 to 3 seeds per slot, then cover them with a thin layer of potting mix or
compost. In just 3-4 days. the small buds growing out of the soil. Once the third or fourth
leaf appears after around 2 weeks , transfer the seedling to land area about 6 to 8 inches in
diameter.
Water management
Manual picking will bedone to prevent and control insect pest infestation.
Weeding
Thoroughly hand weeds in the rows and hills will be removed an it emerge.
Harvesting
Data to be Gathered
The different data to be gathered are the following: growth parameters and yield and its
components.
A.Growth Paraments
1. Plant hieght
It will be measured in centimeters from the ground level to the tip of the highest
shoot of six (6) randomly selected during 15,25,35,and 45 days after planting.
2. Number of leaves
This will be done by counting the number of leaves per plant of the six (6)ramdomly
selected planys.
B.Yields and its Components
1. Weight of leaf
This will be gathered by weighing leaf from 6 randomly selected sample plant using
digital weighing scale.
2. Marketable yield
The total marketable yield will be obtained by adding thhe marketable yield or
harvest. The marketable yield will be converted into tons per hectare using the following
formula;
Innitial Yield/Hectare (t/ha)=Marketable Yield Hectare kg
Harvested Area
3. Pest indence
Insect Infestation rating-the degree of infestation or the infertation to be
evaluated one month after trasplanting and during the first harvest using this criteria;
1=No infection/infestation
2=slightly infected/intested
3=Moderately infected/infested
5=severely infected/infested
Statistical tools
All data to be gathered will be tabulated and analyzed using the analysis of variance (ANOVA) in a
Randomized Complete Block Designs (RCBD).Any differences among treatments are analyze using
the Tukey’s test.
