Problem Background

Background Issuer Healthcare-associated

infections (HC-AI) are one of the most
important causes of death and morbidity in
hospitals that impose a heavy financial
burden on the health sector (Morillo - García
et al., 2015). HC-AIs are not only associated
with increased hospital costs but also
increased use of antibiotics and prolonged
hospitalization and consequently lead to
increased morbidity and mortality (Khan et
al., 2015).
Theoretic Review

Theoretical Overview Health care-associated infections

(HC-AI) are infections people get while they are receiving
health care for other conditions. HC-AI is a major health
issue with high financial impact. HAIs can occur in any
health care facility. HC-AIS is not only associated with
increased hospital costs but also increased use of
antibiotics and prolonged hospitalization and
consequently leads to increased morbidity and mortality
Method

This registry-based descriptive cross-sectional study

was conducted from March 2017 to February 2018 at
Besat hospital. Besat Hospital is located in the city of
Hamadan which is the capital city of Hamadan
province. Besat educational and remedial center, from
a geographical aspect is located in the northeastern
part of Hamadan province.
Discussion

Discussion This study presents the latest nosocomial infection data in pediatric patients at
Besat Hamadan Hospital. In this research; burn, hematology and ICU wards had the most
HCAIS in children. BSI and UTI were the most common infections in both age groups and Ecoli
was the most commonly detected microorganism in girls, while Staphylococcus was more
common in boys. In a study conducted by Zahraei et al. in 95 hospitals with more than 200
beds in Iran in 2007-2008, most of the reported cases were from ICU (Zahraei et al., 2012).
