Learning from the speakers in terms of presentation and

 I LEARNED THAT AS A SPEAKER YOU SHOULD DELIVER YOUR MESSAGE
CLEARLY
 Keep the presentation short but full of information.
 I thought local governments are just in there catering our needs and not
assessed but glad to know, there was an assessment.
 I learned that having a thorough understanding of the topic to be discussed is
important in delivering an effective and comprehensive presentation.
 SGLG assessment covers all the Provinces, cities, and Municipalities. It is a
continuing challenge to do better and in the years to come.
 I have learned that in order to deliver a presentation with a certain topic a
speaker should first show confidence in every words he/she say. Second,
mastery is very important since the information that the speaker is going to
share are considered correct and reliable. Third, the ability to control the
tempo of the presentation, as a speaker aside from providing information,
handling the tempo of the presentation matters most. Like what happen in
our session today, there is a connectivity issues, one thing a speaker can do
is to maintain the flow and continue to capture the attention of the listener.
 that we need to keep track and be responsible on our finances
 The topics assigned were aligned with each other. Every topic
has its own purpose
 Financial Literacy is very important Topic to learn every
person should have
 Tracking spending thru spreadsheets can be very helpful for a
more systematic method of expense tracking
 Keeping calm until the end of the program
 The speakers are very knowledgeable on the topics.
 better to have no credit cards if you are an impulsive buyer
and learn how to save..
 Speakers are well familiar with their assigned topics
 Approach on managing your finances and avoiding temptations
 Well delivered.
 No matter what, we should have control on spending
especially today that there is rising of prices we should just
live within our means and invest or save money for the future
 Creativity
 Good governance always start within yourselves.
 Public Service if a public trust.
 everything starts within ourselves
 Experiences will give an edge with regards to the
mastery of the topic.
 We as a government employee has a big responsibility
in our country and we are accountable for what we are
doing in the delivery of services to the people.
 Well organized regarding sequence of the topic
 should prepare well
 I learned from the topic is that as an employee we
should be honest, punctual, disciplined and reliable.
 Conducting presentations with ppt slides catches the
attention of the audience. This enables a speaker to
present his topic effectively.

For the Presenter
How to create a three minutes speech.

1. Use a simple structure.

Start by clearly saying the ‘headline’ and

key idea underpinning your speech in
simple, everyday language, and follow
with a simple structure supporting your
main point.
Here are some examples:

A: Headline and 3 supporting reasons:
With this approach, follow your “headline”
statement with 3 simple supporting reasons. State
each reason clearly, and explain how each one
helps achieve or support the objective.
“We must change the way we work – for 3 important
reasons:
Thwack…,
Kapow…,
Whamm.“
B: Problem – solution:

This is a simple structure of only 2 parts. It’s an

easy yet powerful way to capture people’s
attention and interest when done well.
Take some time to paint a vivid picture of the
problem first. That audience will then be
clambering for a solution with both ears
open.
C: Timeline:

In this type of short speech, cover:

The history of the issue …
The current situation …
What might happen in the future …
And the ramifications of agreeing (or
disagreeing) with main argument.

D: Metaphor/Top & Tail:
To “top and tail” simply means starting with a
story/quote that hints the message. At the end,
recall that story and link it to message.
This short speech from a 3 minute speech
competition makes excellent use of this approach.
Start the speech (“the top”) with a compelling
metaphor to make a memorable point, and end
the speech (“the tail”) with the same metaphor —
but adjusted to show the benefit of adopting the
central argument.
2: End with a memorable message:

Just as important as how it began and

structured, is how to end it.
Consider the same techniques at the end of
speech. A metaphor that links back to the
original premise, or finishing with a
thought-provoking question, are two ways
to burnish the speech in listener’s mind.
For the Reactor
Three minute constructive
feedback
 The Sandwich Method
(or Sandwich Technique or Hamburger
Method)
 is so named because:
 the pieces of bread represent positive
feedback/compliments while
 the meat of the sandwich (or innards if
you’re vegetarian) represents
constructive criticism.
Slice of Bread 1: Start off with
positive feedback
(authentic praise of something they
did recently)
 Example:
 “By the way, John, I have to hand it to you
on that deal you closed yesterday…that goes
a long way towards helping us reach our
goal.”
2) The “Meat of the Matter”
 Provide constructive criticism.
 Be brief (yet clear and thorough) in delivery of the
meat of the matter — the criticism to share.
 Example:
 “Jon, you’re so good at what you do that it’s hard to
ever find suggestions on how you can improve. That
said, I know you really want that promotion to Director
of Sales. One skill you’re going to need in that position
is analytics, and your weekly reports are currently
pretty light on analytics. For you to earn that Director
of Marketing spot, I recommend that you gain some
mastery over analytics.”
3) The 2nd Slice of Bread: End on a
positive note
 Ideas on how to end with positivity include :
 You can simply reiterate the initial positive
feedback/compliment you had given them.
 You can speak in general terms about how much
progress they are making
 You can compliment them on their
receptiveness to receiving constructive
criticism.
 Example:
 “Jon, that deal you closed was really important and
I’m thrilled with the fact that you and I can have an
open conversation about working harder on
analytics.”
