Questions asked Derek Chauvin

• Have you ever been arrested for a small / petty crime, or maybe even something you
didn't even do ?

• How many people do you know have been arrested and charged with “petty” crimes?

• Have you ever seen an officer become “too aggressive” toward someone.

• Do you think police officers need more training?

• How much training do you believe officers should receive?

• Do you believe Americas officers are “fair” or do you believe they have to much
power?

• Do you think officers are more likely to arrest someone based on their race, age,
gender, and social status?

• Should it be a requirement that officers have a ”mediator” with them to try and de-
escalate the situation? Or would you rather the officers have a degree in social
services ?

• Should officers be able to deny detainees access to the bathroom, medical care, a
drink of water, or a call to a loved one? At what point do they deny human rights?

• Should male officers be allowed to search female detainees including chest and groin
area? Does the same go for women who search men? What should protocol be?
Should Officers receive more training? If yes how much training do you think they should receive?

• The only people to say no were men,

While a majority of 2 & 3 year training were
women's answers.
Do you believe people are more likely to be arrested
based on the Race, Gender, Age, or Social status?

6 women & 4 men were interviewed; this graph

Represents the number of men & women who
answered yes

Light blue = women

Darker blue = men
Should it be a requirement that officers have a ”mediator”
with them to try and de-escalate the situation? Or would
you rather the officers have a degree in social services ?

• 5 women
answered
mediator,
only; 2 men
answered
neither.
Should officers be able to deny detainees access to the bathroom, medical care, a drink
of water, or a call to a loved one? At what point do they deny human rights

I received a few answers like “well if they’re not in

immediate danger - medical care can wait”
Or
No one absolutely need to make a phone call.

Light blue = women

Darker blue = med
Within this small group you can come to the
conclusion that most people; especially women,
believe that police reform is definitely
something that would be in the best interest for
many civilians here in America.

Summary
Future research

First & foremost one major research method would to be conducting my own research.. Begin to look up laws and regulations the cops
are supposed to keep upheld.
I also could obviously conduct a large survey with a more equal amount of subjects of different races, genders, social status, and age.
Lastly could be observation… Maybe sit in a police station and just watch and see how the officers handle the situation.
