Centrifugal Pump Troubleshooting Charts

The following remarks under troubleshooting of the

surface pumps are identified. The remark gives more
attention on faults, causes and remedies for those
troubles during the operation of the pumps.
Fault Cause Remedies
No water Lack of Prime  Fill pump and suction pipe completely with
delivered water
Speed too low  Check whether motor is directly across
the line and receiving full voltage
 Frequency may be too Iow. May have
open phase. Correct this (50 Hz)
Discharge head too high  Check pipe friction losses Larger pipe
may be needed. Are valves wide open?
Impeller plugged  Remove top of pump and clean impeIIer
Suction lift too  Check suction pipe for friction losses. If
static lift is too high, water to be pumped
must be raised or pump lowered
Wrong rotation  Compare turning of motor with directional
arrow on pump
No water or too low water  Increase the installation depth of the
level in bore hole pump, throttle the pump or replace it by
a smaller model to obtain a smaller
capacity

Closed sluice valve  Adjust the sluice valve

The check valve has  Disconnect the pump from the pipe and
blocked in the closed check Send the pump to an authorized
position after sales service center if necessary

Air leaks in suction  Test for leaks with flame or match (water
pumps only)
Line or strainer blocked  Clean strainer, Remove obstructions
The electric The selector switch is set to Turn to the ON position
pump fails to OFF position
start
The motor is not powered  Check whether the fuses have burned
out or
 whether the circuit protecting relay has
activated
 check whether the
equipment is receiving power
The automatic monitoring Wait until the correct operative conditions

burnout of the motor
Insufficient electrical check the insulation resistance, repair or
insulation replace
