Keywords are like a compass for your digital marketing (SEO,

SEM & Social Media) campaigns: they tell you where to go and
whether or not you’re making progress.
It all begins with words typed into a search box.

Types of keywords:
Small keywords – e.g. Chinese restaurant
Long tail keywords – e.g. authentic Chinese restaurant in Kolkata
Broad Match - to reach the widest audience possible
Exact Match - based on exact search queries 
Phrase Match - lie somewhere in between the two other types of
keyword matches. It is more focused than broad keywords but less so than
exact ones.

• Ask yourself...
• Is the keyword relevant to your website's content? Will searchers find what they
are looking for on your site when they search using these keywords? Will they be
happy with what they find?
• Search for the term/phrase in the major engines
• Understanding which websites already rank for your keyword gives you valuable
insight into the competition, and also how hard it will be to rank for the given
term. 
• Validate the search volume of the keywords at Google
AdWords
• Using the data you’ve collected, determine the volume of
each keyword
