Different faces of moon and its Definition

Crescent Moon

Crescent moon . The Moon as it appears early in

Its first quarter or late in its last quarter, when only a
small arc-shaped section of the visible portion is
illuminated by the Sun.

• The word crescent is derived from the Latin verb crescere "to grow",

technically denoting the waxing moon.

• The shape of the lit side of a spherical body that appears to be less than half
illuminated by the Sun as seen by the viewer appears in a different shape
from what is generally termed a crescent in planar geometry.
New Moon
• In astronomy, the new moon is the first
lunar phase, when the Moon and Sun
have the same ecliptic longitude. At this
phase, the lunar disk is not visible to the
unaided eye, except when silhouetted
during a solar eclipse. Daylight outshines the earthlight that dimly illuminates
the new moon.
Gibbous Moon
A “gibbous” moon is an moon that appears
more than half lighted but less than full You’ll
see a waxing gibbous moon between
a first quarter moon and full moon. The word
Gibbous comes from a root word that means
hump-backed.
Full Moon

• A Full Moon is when we can see the

entire lit portion of the Moon.
This occurs when Earth is located
between the Sun and the Moon

• A lunar eclipse can only happen at full moon.
