FIREFIGHTING SAFETY TECHNIQUES

SAFETY – is a state or condition of being free from harm, danger or


injury.

OBJECTIVES OF SAFETY:

1. To keep you from injury.


2. To keep damage to property, equipment and materials at a
minimum.
GOAL OF SAFETY:
-To instill into the mind of the people the idea of safe moving and
completion of acts in a safe manner.

1. Safety Engineering – Best way to deal with the unsafe condition.

3. Hazard Familiarization – Familiarization of AOR, Size-up/Initiativeness,

4. Safety Control Measures
Areas Wherein Safety Control Are Required:

1. At the Fire Station.


2. When Responding to Fire Calls/Emergencies.
3. At the Fire/Disaster/Emergency Scene.
4. When Returning to the Station.
5. During the Drills/Training.
WHAT IS ACCIDENT?

ACCIDENT - an unplanned and unfortunate event that results in damage,


injury, or upset of some kind.

Is accident can be prevented? YES or NO


Is accident cannot be prevented? YES or NO

In General Rules:
1. Accident can be prevented by eliminating unsafe acts or hazards.
- but not totally eliminated because there are people that hazard
to himself (Lack of Education, Lack of Discipline).

“So, Therefore It cannot be prevented, but can be minimized”.


THE LAW OF CAUSE & EFFECT

CAUSE - a person or thing that makes something happen or exist or is


responsible for something that happens.

EFFECT- a change or changed state occurring as a direct result of


action by somebody or something else.

STANDARD FIREFIGHTING SAFETY ORDERS

F – Fight fire aggressively, but provide safety first (Look-up, Look-down


Look all around you)
I – Initiate actions based on current weather conditions/wind direction.
R – Recognized current fire status.
E – Ensure that instructions are given and understood.

O – Obtain current information of the fire.


R – Remain in communication with crews and other responding team.
D – Determine safety route or escape route.
E – Establish look out on hazardous area
R – Retain in control of yourself.
S – Stay calm, stay alert, think decisively and act methodically.
