EFFECT OF ONLINE CLASS
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN
INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS DURING
COVID-19 PANDEMIC
• COMMUNICATION - can be described as the process of transmitting
information and popular understanding from one person to another

• derived from the Latin “communis,” meaning ‘common’

A COMMUNICATION THEREFORE HAS THREE PARTS:
THE SENDER, THE MESSAGE, AND THE RECIPIENT

• Sender- ‘encodes’ the message

• The Message- usually in a mixture of words and non-verbal
communication.
• The Recipient - decodes the message
THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS

A message or communication is sent by the sender through a

communication channel to a receiver, or to multiple receivers.
PROBLEMS:

1. Does online learning have a negative impact on

communication between instructors and students?

2. How communication between instructors and students in

educational Institutions can be improved?
3. Does online learning have a negative effect on students’
participation and their productivity level as a whole class ?
ONLINE LEARNING AND COMMUNICATION

• universities have resorted to continuing lectures online through websites such as Google meet.
Obviously, this has an effect on communication as communicating virtually differs from face-
to-face communication. In this section we will be discussing the following sub-topics to help us
gain a better understanding of the subject.
WHAT IS ONLINE LEARNING AND FACE-TO-
FACE LEARNING?.

Conrad (2002) define online learning as a more modern form of

distance learning that enhances access for learners identified
as both non-traditional and ineffective to educational
opportunities.
face-to-face learning process- no communication technology is
required for a face-to-face session (Caner, 2012).
PROBLEMS OF ONLINE LEARNING

• Time management- as online class require a lot of time and

intensive work.
• Adaptability Struggle -Switching from traditional classroom and
face to face instructor training to computer-based training in a
virtual classroom makes the learning experience entirely different
for students.
THE EFFECTS OF ONLINE LEARNING ON
COMMUNICATION

• Online learning has many different effects like for example is

that when we are in the settings of online learning we may not
learn a lot because we are struggling about online education
or you do not have enough internet to support your online
system.
• Sometimes others are lack of interest or not giving enough
time or attention to online class.
THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FACE-TO-FACE
LEARNING AND ONLINE LEARNING.

• Face to face and online learning has a big differences , when in face to face
learning the students are giving enough focus on the professor, so they are
able to learn a lot since they are listening and there is no distraction. Also
the whole class can bond with each other while learning they are able to
communicate well
• While in online learning, the students may mot pay attention to the speaker
because they are doing such things because the speaker cannot see them.
In online learning the knowledge you want to gain is very hard to get
because you have no no idea what will happen and what will be the set up
of online class, so you are just adapting the set up.
