EFFECT OF ONLINE CLASS
COMMUNICATION BETWEEN
INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS DURING
COVID-19 PANDEMIC
• COMMUNICATION - can be described as the process of transmitting
information and popular understanding from one person to another

• derived from the Latin “communis,” meaning ‘common’

A COMMUNICATION THEREFORE HAS THREE PARTS:
THE SENDER, THE MESSAGE, AND THE RECIPIENT

• Sender- ‘encodes’ the message

• The Message- usually in a mixture of words and non-verbal
communication.
• The Recipient - decodes the message
THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS

A message or communication is sent by the sender through a

communication channel to a receiver, or to multiple receivers.
PROBLEMS:

1. Does online learning have a negative impact on

communication between instructors and students?

2. How communication between instructors and students in

educational Institutions can be improved?
3. Does online learning have a negative effect on students’
participation and their productivity level as a whole class ?
ONLINE LEARNING AND COMMUNICATION

• universities have resorted to continuing lectures online through websites such as Google meet.
Obviously, this has an effect on communication as communicating virtually differs from face-
to-face communication. In this section we will be discussing the following sub-topics to help us
gain a better understanding of the subject.
WHAT IS ONLINE LEARNING AND FACE-TO-
FACE LEARNING?.

Conrad (2002) define online learning as a more modern form of

distance learning that enhances access for learners identified
as both non-traditional and ineffective to educational
opportunities.
face-to-face learning process- no communication technology is
required for a face-to-face session (Caner, 2012).
PROBLEMS OF ONLINE LEARNING

• Time management- as online class require a lot of time and

intensive work.
• Adaptability Struggle -Switching from traditional classroom and
face to face instructor training to computer-based training in a
virtual classroom makes the learning experience entirely different
for students.
