CHAPTER 1

I. INTRODUCTION
Due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic, many activities are restrictedly
done face-to-face. One of this, the face-to-face method of education, Due to these
problem, the Department of Education (DepEd). Has applied distance learning
modalities to ensure learning continuity, which involved technology and internet
connection.
Online learning is a method of education whereby students learn in a fully
virtual environment. First introduced in the 1990s with the creation of the internet and
utilized in distance learning, online learning (also called e-learning) is most prevalent
in higher education, enabling students from different geographical areas to engage
with an academic institution and other students online and learn flexibly, at their own
pace, while working towards a degree or certificate.
Online learning refers to an internet-based learning environment that can
connect students of diverse backgrounds who boast different perspectives. A higher
education institution will use a learning management system, or LMS, to facilitate
online learning, which can take the form of asynchronous learning (where students are
not required to be online at the same time, and utilize discussion threads and e-mails
to complete coursework) or synchronous learning (where students must be online at
the same time).
Online Education enables that teacher and the students to set their own learning
pace, and there’s the added flexibility of setting a schedule that fits everyone’s
agenda. As a result, using an online educational platform allows for a better balance
of work and studies, so there’s no need to give anything up. Studying online teaches
you vital time management skills which makes finding a good work study balance
easier. Having a common agenda between the student and teacher can also prompt
both parties to accept new responsibilities and have more autonomy.
Aside from the good effect of online learning there are some problems faced by
students like Adaptability Struggle, Technical issues, Computer Literacy, Time
management, self-motivation. This common problems can be solved through proper
initiatives for the students future benefits.

1.Adaptability Struggle. Switching from traditional classroom and face to face

instructor training to computer-based training in a virtual classroom makes the
learning experience entirely different for students. Their resistance to change doesn’t
allow them to adapt to the online learning environment, whereas it takes time for them
to get accustomed to Course Management Systems (CMS) and the methods of
computer-based education. While passive listening and notes taking are expected in a
traditional classroom, online discussions or creating a web page demand springing
into action. Students with a “traditional” mindset find it difficult to adapt; however,
they need to accept the new learning circumstances with an open mind and heart.
Understanding the benefits of eLearning and even discussing them with their peers
may change this mindset and better prepare students for online classes.
2. Technical Issues. Many students are not provided with the high bandwidth or the
strong internet connection that online courses require, and thus fail to catch up with
their virtual classmates: Their weak monitors make it hard to follow the Course
Management System and their learning experience becomes problematic. Moreover,
most of them live off campus and find it difficult to keep in tune with the technical
requirements of the chosen course. Some of them don’t even own computers and seek
help in Learning Resource Centers for technical assistance. The only solution to this
problem is knowing exactly what kind of technological support they will need for a
certain course before enrolling in it, as well as properly equipping themselves for the
course’s successful completion.
3. Computer Literacy. Although students are generally tech savvy, and thus able to
manage computers well, lack of computer literacy is a major issue among students
today. Many of them cannot operate basic programs such as Microsoft Word and
PowerPoint and therefore are not able to handle their files. Furthermore, many
students find fixing basic computer problems troublesome, as they have no knowledge
in this area. However, technological proficiency is a must for following online
courses, as it enables students to manage their assignments and courseware in an
organized manner without struggling. Basic courses in computer literacy enhance
students’ knowledge in the field; having a fundamental knowledge of computer
hardware would help them participate in online classes without interruptions and
hindrances.
4. Time Management. Time management is a difficult task for e-learners, as online
courses require a lot of time and intensive work. Furthermore, whereas it is mostly
adults who prefer web-based learning programs for their place and time flexibility,
they rarely have the time to take the courses due to their various everyday
commitments. A regular schedule planner would be a significant help to these
learners, as they could even set reminders for their courses and assignments.
5. Self-Motivation. Self-motivation is an e-Learning essential requirement; however,
many online learners lack it, much to their surprise. After enrolling in distance
learning courses, many learners fall behind and nurture the idea of giving up, as
difficulties in handling a technolo gical medium also seem insurmountable. Students
need to find the motivation to follow the new educational trends and also properly
equip themselves for future challenges in their education and careers. Only a positive
attitude will help them overcome the challenges in e-Learning; though this is hard to
practice, students need to understand that it is necessary in order to reap the e-
Learning’s benefits in the future.

II. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

The study aims to determine the effect of Online Learning purposes. Specially, the
study aims to answer the following problems:
1. What is the positive impact of online learning in terms of educational purposes
to the Senior High Student of Pangal Sur High School?
2. What are the problems that Senior High School Students usually encountered
during the online learning ?
3. How does These problem affect their studies?

III. SCOPE AND LIMITATION

The researchers will conduct this study in Pangal Sur High School. The
student limits coverage of Senior High School Students. The study focuses on the 30
current students of Senior High School of the Present Year 2021-2022.

Significance of the Study

The significant of the study is to determine the problems encountered by
Senior High School students towards online learning.

Students. The student will benefit from this study. Students who are experiencing
problems about the new learning modalities. With the help of this research, students
are now able to express the problem that they are experiencing as they go through this
online learning.

Teacher. The teacher will benefit from this study. With the help of this research,
teacher will now able to identify the common problems that their students usually
encountered during online learning. This study is their stepping stone to reach and ask
their students about their problems they are experiencing and how they would help
them.

Future Researchers. The future Researcher can benefit from this study, it may serve
this as their basis or guide in doing their practical reasearch subject. With the help of
this research they can improve better their research can help them gather information
about the new learning modalities and the problems encountered by the students as
they go through this pandemic.

Future Senior High School Students. The future Senior High School students can
benefit from this study because they are now able to identify and learn the common
problems usually encountered during online learning. With the help of this future
Senior High School students are now able to think a strategy on how they will go
through this problems.
