What is a lynx?
• A lynx is a type of wild cat that
belongs to mammal species.
• Lynx have short, stubby tails, long
tufts of black hair on their ears, and

What is a Lynx?
● Lynx are skilled hunters and
primarily feed on small to medium-
sized prey, such as rodents, birds, and
ungulates.

● They are solitary animals and are

found in various habitats across the
Northern Hemisphere, including
forests, tundra, and rocky terrain.
Why are lynxes becoming an
endangered species?
Here are some of the main factors that have contributed to
the decline of lynx populations:

1. Habitat loss: The destruction of lynx habitat due to human activities, such
as logging, mining, agriculture, and urbanization.
2. Hunting and trapping: Lynx have historically been hunted and trapped for
their fur, which has contributed to population declines. Some populations
continue to be hunted illegally, despite protection laws.
3. Climate change: Changes in temperature, precipitation, and snow cover due
to climate change are affecting lynx and their prey in various ways, making
it more difficult for lynx to survive.
What is being done to help the
endangered lynx species?
Worldwide, there are thought to be more than
45,000  lynxes, but the numbers are
deacreasing bit by bit due to various

underway to protect lynxes and
