BUS TOPOLOGY

KIRAN SHARMA
Bus Topology Introduction

• Bus topology is a network setup where each computer and

network device is connected to a single cable or backbone.

• A bus topology is a topology for a Local Area Network (LAN) in

which all the nodes are connected to a single cable.

• The cable to which the nodes connect is called a "backbone".

• If the backbone is broken, the entire segment fails.

• Bus topologies are relatively easy to install and don't require much

cabling compared to the alternatives.

Advantages of Bus Topology
• Easy to connect a computer or peripheral to a linear bus.

• Requires less cable length.

• Easy to extend.
Disadvantages of Bus Topology
• Entire network shuts down if there is a break in the main cable.

• Difficult to identify the problem if the entire network shuts down.

• Terminators are required at both ends of the backbone cable.
