Overall Module Aim
The module will develop students’ understanding of entrepreneurship in
an international context through considering a range of key issues and
topics. The module adopts a critical and broad-ranging social science
approach to the subject and aims to provide students with the ability to
analyse entrepreneurship from an international perspective within the
context of a wide range of management, organisation studies and social
science debates. The module focuses on both the conceptual aspects of
international entrepreneurship as well as some practical elements in order to
equip the student with a valid grounding of both theory and practice.

The overall aim of this module will be to educate students on the theoretical
and practical aspects of developing and growing a small business
internationally, advance cross-national comparisons of entrepreneurial
activity and consider entrepreneurship as a solution to global social
problems. Students will develop insights, tools, concepts, and skills necessary
to understand the challenges and opportunities of international
entrepreneurship.

Pre-Assessment Clinic
Assessment – Semester 2
Weighting 50%, 2,000 words

Formative Assessment
 
Formative Assessment is provided through formative oral feedback from peers
and/or tutors within scheduled Small Group Teaching such as
Seminars/Workshops, addressing the proposed entrepreneurial idea and Value
Proposition. This is based on diverse practices such as ongoing monitoring of
student progress through interaction, overall student performance, discussion
and feedback of the coursework in the physical/online class/discussion board.
The nature of the techniques used are at the discretion of the module leader in
collaboration with the tutors.
Summative Assessment
 
The Summative Assessment is designed in such a way so that students work
initially in teams (max 7 members) on projects around an entrepreneurial
solution to a global issue. Emphasis is placed upon the development of
business skills, awareness of new venture start-up in a global context and
social problems. In teams, students will endeavour to originate and plan an
enterprise related to a particular global problem or challenge, involving the
development of systems and procedures for operating the enterprise. They will
be expected to develop a business idea and research its potential within a
specific international context (community, region, country). Individually,
students shall identify and evaluate their own skill development and
learning in relation to set criteria.
 
Particularly, students are asked to engage in entrepreneurial thinking by

A) Proposing an International Social Venture by presenting/discussing the
9 building blocks/key areas of a Business Model.
 
B) Reflecting on the Entrepreneurial Journey

words; 10% margin with the word count applies)

Evidence containing four parts…
 
Part 1 Individual-based Reflection Essay: Reflection upon the
Entrepreneurial Journey by considering the role of the proposed International
Social Venture as a solution to global problems and own Skill Development
(2,000 words in total excluding bibliography or reference list, footnotes,
appendices; 10% margin with the word count applies)
 
Part 2 Group-based Evidence in Appendix: Executive Summary (max 1
pages - single spaced - 12 font size) of the proposed International Social
Venture (same for all team members)
 
Part 3 Group-based Evidence in Appendix: Economic – Social -
Environmental Business Model Canvas (same for all team members)
 
Part 4 Group-based Evidence in the Appendix: Peer Assessment Template
(same for all team members)

Teams tend to go through stages in their development


Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing and Adjourning (Tuckman, 1965)

 Be aware of the limitations and strengths of the group’s composition

 People in groups tend to make ‘safe’ decisions in order to get the approval
of other members

 Be aware of multi-cultural dynamics as well as people in different time


zones.

 Meet regularly (at least once per week) outside of this to organise
the group work.

 Schedule a weekly catch-up.

 Use WhatsApp/Messenger etc. to keep in regular contact. Always


maintain online learning etiquette as outlined by the University

– How will you agree what is a fair workload for everyone?
– What if you don’t feel people are contributing enough?
Core Tips…
 It’s important to get on top of the work early on. This will make the module simpler
and more enjoyable for you.

 Set up regular meetings with an agenda which should be sent to each other
BEFORE the meeting

 Take notes of each meeting and send out afterwards.

 Be clear on goals/action points between each meeting. Make these realistic.

 Discuss how you want to approach situations if something does go wrong

 Delegate tasks but don’t disappear into individual silos

 Work through the previous minutes before going through the next weeks agenda
Peer Assessment
It is a university requirement that all modules involving a substantial amount of
group-work involve a procedure to ensure that marking is fair at the individual level.

Participation is compulsory … Even if you consider that all team members have
contributed equally you must still submit the Peer Assessment Template (available
under Assessment in the Assessment Brief).
