ARISTOTLE
• Ancient greek philosopher know for his natural
philosophy logic and political theory.

• According to Aristotle, good life is one in which person

cultivates and exercises their rational faculties by, for
instance, engaging in scientific inquiry, philosophical
discussion, artistic creation or legislation.

• “The end of life is eudaimonia.”— Aristotle.

• Eudaimonia means well-being, virtue and human

flourishing.
• People have different ideas of what constitutes the good life.
• Wrong pursuits may lead to tragic consequences.
• Correct pursuits may lead to flourishing.
• Therefore, be careful what you dream for.
• A meaningful, authentic good life is basedon inner goodness.
• To live the good life is to become what weought to be as human beings —.
• Moral agents who strive for moral excellence.
WHAT IS MEANT BY GOOD LIFE?

THE VIRTUES:
• INTELLECTUAL VIRTUE • MORAL VITUE
- THEORETICAL WISDOM - CONTROLLED BY PRACTICAL WISDOM
(THINKING OF TRUTH). (ABILITY TO MAKE RIGHT JUDGEMENT DAY)
- PRACTICAL WISDOM -OWED IT’S DEVELOPMENT TO HOW ONE
- UNDERSTANDING. NURTURED IT AS HABIT.

EXPERIENCE AND TIME ARE - CAN BE LEARNED.

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS OF THE

DEVELOPMENT OF INTELLECTUAL VIRTUE.
HAPPINESS TO ARISTOTLE
• “Happiness depends on ourselves”

• Central purpose of human life and a goal in itself.

• Depends on the cultivation of virtue.

• A genuinely happy life required the fulfillment of a broad range of conditions, including
physical as well as mental well-being
HAPPINESS AS THE ULTIMATE PURPOSE OF
HUMAN EXISTENCE
• HAPPINESS IS A FINAL END OR GOAL THAT ENCOMPASSES THE TOTALITY OF ONE’S LIFE.
• IT IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE GAINED OR LOST IN FEW HOURS, LIKE
PREASURABLE SENSATIONS.

• IT IS MORE LIKE THE ULTIMATE VALUE OF YOUR LIFE AS LIVED UP TO THIS MOMENT,
MEASURING HOW WELL YOU HAVE LIVED UP TO YOUR FULL POTENTIAL AS HUMAN
BEING.
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY AND GOOD LIFE
• S&T IS ALSO THE MOVEMENT TOWARDS GOOD LIFE.
• S&T ARE ONE OF THE HIGHEST EXPRESSIONS OF HUMAN FACULTIES.
• S&T ALLOW US TO THRIVE AND FLOURISH IF WE DESIRE IT.
• S&T WITH VIRTUE CAN HELP AN INDIVIDUAL TO BE OUT OF DANGER.
NICHOMACHEAN ETHICS 2:2
• All human activities aim at some good. Every art
and human inquiry and similarly every action and
pursuit is thought to aim at some good; and for this
reason the good has been rightly declared as that at
which all things aim.
THE ROLE OF ETHICS IN INNOVATION
• At first glance, innovation appears to be ethically indifferent and its moral valuation
seems solely related to its use. Social networks, WhatsApp messages and the like can
facilitate a close relationship such as that of capturing terrorists. Internet fosters both the
search for information just as much as its distribution (dispersion). It’s true that
responsibility lies with the user, but at the same time it is also true that innovation often
brings important consequences for people and communities alike.
THE GOOD LIFE, INNOVATION, AND ETHICS

These three are related because we have thought of many innovative ideas that helped
aid the idea of a good life but of course, when thinking of a brand new innovation we
must never forget ethics to not be unethical in thinking of something new.
WHAT IS ETHICS?
- Derived from the Greek word “ethos”, which means “way of living”,

- Ethics is a branch of philosophy that is concerned with human conduct, more

especifically the behaviour of individuals in society.

- Ethics examines the rational justification for our moral judgments; it studies what is
morally right or wrong, just or unjust.
ETHICHAL STANDARDS
- is a topic which belongs to ethics as a branch of philosophy. As per the definition, it
consists of standards on what a person could do so that his or her conduct would resemble
what is called ”the good life”. In other words, this involves on whether what they do is a
good behavior or not.

Nowadays, contemporary problems involving ethics seem to be greatly ignored by

society. This is because this type of problem does not usually apper in real life, but still, the
effects or the consequences are apparent in society
