 EASTERN VISAYAS
Eastern Visayas is an administrative region in the
Philippines, designated as Region VIII. It consists of
three main islands, Samar, Leyte and Biliran. The
region has six provinces, one independent city and
one highly urbanized city[2] namely, Biliran, Leyte,
Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Southern
Leyte, Ormoc and Tacloban. The highly urbanized city
of Tacloban is the sole regional center. These
provinces and cities occupy the easternmost islands of
the Visayas group of islands.

Dances. Tinikling, the Philippines' national dance is
folkdance that originated from the region. But the
most popular cultural dance among Warays is the
Kuratsa, danced during feast celebrations and special
gatherings.

population of 4,547,150 inhabitants, making it the
third most populous region in the Visayas.

Biliran
Biliran, officially the Province of Biliran, is an island
province in the Philippines located in the Eastern
Visayas region (Region VIII). Biliran is one of the
country's smallest and newest provinces. Formerly a
sub-province of Leyte, it became an independent
province in 1992.
Biliran is famous or known for Ulan-Ulan Falls and
Sambawan Island.

Leyte
The province is home to the stunning Kalanggaman
Island and its white powdery sand beach, the longest
bridge in the country, and a historical World War II
site. Aside from these, Leyte is also a top destination
for diving, waterfalls, and more stunning beaches.

Northern Samar
Northern Samar is a province in the Philippines
located in the Eastern Visayas Region. Its capital is
Catarman. Northern Samar is famous for its natural
rock formations found in Biri Island and white silky
sand beaches in San Jose and Lavezares.

Eastern Samar
Eastern Samar is famous in Philippine history is
Homonhon Island off the coast of Guiuan, the
province's southern-most town, facing both the Pacific
Ocean and the Leyte Gulf where Magellan first landed.
Guiuan by itself is a quaint town composed of several
Island-Barangays, each with its own story to tell.

Southern Leyte
Southern Leyte forms an important part of the inter-
island transportation system of the country, with
ferries transporting people and goods between Liloan
and Surigao del Norte in Mindanao. The province is
well known for its quality abaca products and is the
country's major producer of abaca fiber.

Tacloban
Tacloban is the largest city and distributing centre in
the eastern Visayan Islands (Leyte and Samar) group.
A port since 1874, it has a long deepwater wharf, a
bulk petroleum depot, and an airport. Hemp, copra,
and lumber are exported, and commercial fishing is
important.

Pintados-Kasadyaan Festival
Hudyaka Festival
The Hudyaka Festival is a
celebration that brings the marine
beauty of Bais City to life. This
annual celebration is usually held on
the first week of September. The
celebration started way back when
the towns as young as any of them
could be.
The Pintados-Kasadyaan festival
includes multiple events throughout
the celebration. These events are
called the Festival of festivals of
Leyte, the Ritual Dance Presentation
of Pintados Festival, and the
“Pagrayhay” during the Grand
Parade.
Bankaton Festival
If there’s something to look forward
to in Lavezares, Northern Samar this
month of August aside from its
beautiful beaches and islets, that
would be the Bankaton Festival.
The Bankaton Festival is usually
celebrated every August 20.

Pagkamugna Festival

Pagkamugna Festival remebers the
founding of the province of
Southern Leyte on July 1960. Grand

prestigious search for Southern
Leyte highlight this festivity.
Pintados Festival
The Pintados Festival is a cultural-
religious celebration in Tacloban
based on the body-painting
traditions of the ancient tattooed
"pintados" warriors.
