SYNCHRONIZE

D SWIMMING
-Basic skills
SYNCHRONIZED
SWIMMING
REQUIRES A
COMBINATION OF
SWIMMING, DANCE,
AND GYMNASTICS
SKILLS.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE BASIC SKILLS
INVOLVED IN SYNCHRONIZED
SWIMMING:
Eggbeater Kick:

 This is a specialized technique used to

keep the swimmer afloat while they
perform the routine. The swimmer's
legs move in a circular motion, similar
to the way an eggbeater works, to
propel them upward.
Sculling:
 Sculling is a technique where the
swimmer uses their hands and arms to
create resistance against the water,
allowing them to move in different
directions or hold a position without
sinking.
Figures:
 Figures are specific positions or shapes
that the swimmer must hold, such as a
ballet leg, a vertical split, or a back
layout. These positions are typically
held for a few seconds and require
strength, flexibility, and balance.
Lifts:
 Lifts involve the swimmer being lifted
out of the water by one or more
teammates. Lifts can be simple or
complex, and require strength,
coordination, and trust between the
swimmers involved.
Spin/turns:
 Spin/turns are movements where the
swimmer rotates their body around a
specific axis, such as a spin in the water
or a turn in the air during a lift.
Choreography:
 Choreography is the art of combining
the different skills into a routine that
flows seamlessly together. It involves
creating transitions between different
movements, incorporating music and
storytelling, and ensuring that the
routine is synchronized and visually
appealing.
THESE ARE JUST SOME OF THE BASIC
SKILLS INVOLVED IN SYNCHRONIZED
SWIMMING. TO BECOME PROFICIENT IN
THE SPORT, SWIMMERS MUST TRAIN AND
PRACTICE EXTENSIVELY TO DEVELOP
THEIR STRENGTH, FLEXIBILITY,
COORDINATION, AND ARTISTIC
EXPRESSION.
