RELATIONSHIP
Population is the number of people in a geographical
area.

Resources is a substance or material dependent upon to

Population density can be determined by dividing the

number of people living in an area by the total
geographical area. It is quantitative.

Also, Population – Resources Ratio is the number of

people divided by the area in which they live provided
the concept of population and area is a qualitative one. It
is qualitative and a standard of living.
POPULATION-RESOURCE REGIONS OF THE WORLD

Ackerman, E.A, has tried to make a

beginning by categorising the world into
five types of population-resource
regions :
(1)U.S.A. Type Region
(2)European Type Region
(3) Egyptian Type Region
(4) Brazilian Type Region
(5) Arctic Desert Type Region.

Analysis of Population – Resource Ratio Classification

Merits of the classification:

Novel Effort
Qualitative Aspect
Statistical Base
Based on serious study
Popularity

Demerits of the classification:

Only a promising beginning
Lack of sufficient data
Need of a proper scale
Conceptual framework
Varieties of focalized facts
