UK Examinations
Admission into an English or Commonwealth
university has just three requirements: successful
completion of A-level exams, a written personal
statement, and an interview. A-level results can
also be used for admission into American and
European universities.
A UK government entity called Ofqual is
responsible for all examinations, and they
delegate the administration of exams to four
official exam boards of which Cambridge (OCR)
is the most widely known in Vietnam. The largest
of these exam boards is Pearson Edexcel which
offer key advantages for international students
over other exam boards.
Program Overview
The Academy is one of only three schools in all
Northern Vietnam that is certified by Pearson
Edexcel to teach and administer IGCSE and A-
Level examinations. We provide three distinct but
sequential programs (primary, secondary, and
high school) that closely map to the national UK
curriculum with each program providing the
foundation required for the rigors of the next.
Notable advantages available to students testing
through the Pearson exam board include modular
examinations and receiving their results with
detailed marking notes for
free following the exam cycle. Modular exams
allow students to take exam papers incrementally
instead of having to take them all at once in a
single testing period. The advantages and support
provided by Pearson Edexcel coupled with the
Academy’s philosophy, facilities, and unique
approach to English education in Vietnam
provides students with the absolute best path to
admission in western universities.
Primary - iPrimary CEFR*
Beginning at five years old children can begin
our primary program. Students are taught a core
curriculum of English, Science, and Mathematics
with an integrated mini curriculum of technology
and global citizenship. In addition, the Academy
augments the core curriculum at every level in
creative and interactive ways to provide a holistic
and enriching educational experience.
All primary classes consist of 10 weekly teaching
hours in classrooms with only 8 students and
each lesson is taught over the course of 2 hours.
Lessons are divided into distinct ”Learn” and
“Do” periods. The first hour is spent with their
head teacher learning and practicing new
knowledge and concepts. The second hour is
spent with the
*Common European Framework of Reference for Languages 
teacher and a Native English Speaker (NES)
engaging in enrichment activities and
manipulatives to ensure retention of newly taught
knowledge. The “Do” portion of each class
provides a less structured teaching environment
that encourages and fosters both creative and
critical thinking skills. Our unique approach to
utilizing NES means they spend all their time
sitting with students and working closely with
each of them in small groups. By building our
program around highly qualified Vietnamese
teachers we can ensure our program maintains the
highest quality and has continuity from year to
year while still providing students with
substantially more quality time with NES than
traditional in-school programs.
The primary program will prepare students for the
upcoming rigors of the secondary program and
have them begin their formal examinations with
Edexcel. Students will take four formal Pearson
Edexcel CEFR based assessments which include
the additional stages of Pre-A1 and A2+
providing a more comprehensive and measured
pathway to English fluency.

Secondary - IGCSE
The Academy focuses on the “big four” courses
of Mathematics, Physics, Biology, and Chemistry.
Secondary students will be able to take IGCSE
courses in all four of these subjects to begin
preparing for their A-level examinations. IGCSE

referred to as O-levels and are the formal
requirements for finishing upper secondary and
beginning A-level courses in the UK. Course are
two years long and following completion students
will sit for their exams at the Academy and
receive their formal credentials from the UK
government upon completion. Exam results are
not a singular priority at the Academy. Our
curriculum is designed to provide each student
with a uniquely enriched and rewarding learning
experience. Students will spend a significant part
of their year doing lab experiments in one of
three custom designed labs. Each lab is outfitted
with the very best equipment and materials
available to ensure that every part of the
curriculum is taught in a meaningful and
purposeful way.
High School - A-Levels
The Primary and Secondary program each
prepare students for the challenges that await
them in our High School program. The ”big four”
STEM courses begun at the IGCSE level are
continued at A-level with one additional math
course. Although university admission only
requires the completion of 4 A-level courses,
students seeking admission into elite universities
will likely want to complete 5 courses. The
purpose of focusing only on the “big four”
courses is to give each of our students the best
chances for university admission but more
importantly the most opportunities. Students do
not always know what they want to study and
even when they do they can change their minds.
Not only will every program accept these 5
courses but it will be a significant advantage for
students applying to programs that do not require
them. On the other hand, science based programs
do require these and students taking less
challenging courses will not be granted
admission.
