Population
Definition:

- A population is defined as the group of individuals

who belong to the same species and cohabit a
particular area.

- In order to survive throughout time, members of a

population frequently rely on the same resources, are
susceptible to the same environmental restrictions,
and depend on the availability of other members.
What is the study of population called?
- Demography is the scientific study of human populations. It is
important to understand the structure of a population in order to
plan health and public health interventions; population structures
can be represented as age pyramids.

- Population growth or decline depends upon fertility, mortality and

migration.
What is the difference of Population and Species?

- A species includes all organisms in the world which

look similar and can mate to make viable and fertile
offspring.
- A population includes only the members of a species
that live in a given region.
- All humans on Earth belong to the same species.
What is the difference of Population and
Community?
- While a population consists of the members of one species that live
in a particular area, a community includes all the different species
that live in that area.
Facts about Population
• World population has reached 8.05 billion people
on November 15, 2022, according to the United
Nations.
• China, India, the United States, Indonesia, Pakistan, Brazil, Nigeria,
Bangladesh, Russia, and Mexico were among the top 10 most populous
countries in the world in 2022. 6/10 of the most populated country is in
Asia, which is also the most populated continent with 56% of the world
population.
• The second most populous species in the world aside from
mammals (like humans), are birds!
Why is Population important?
- The size of the population is always changing in response to fertility, mortality, and migration.

- The actual size of the population can be explained on the basis of the particular place and in a particular

time.

- The population is one of the important factors which helps to balance the environment, the population

should in a balance with the means and resources.

- If the population will be balanced, then all the needs and demand of the people can be easily fulfilled,

which helps to preserve the environment of the country.
